Everyone can remember a teacher who made a difference in his or her life.During National Teacher Appreciation Week, May 2-6, you can recognize your favorite teacher by posting a message to #ThankATeacher. Marco's Pizza is encouraging its customers to do the same, and is also distributing 250,000 Free Pizza Certificates for teachers to schools across the country.

In North Royalton, Ohio, the spirit of Teacher Appreciation Week was captured on video when teacher Kami Likovic, an intervention specialist for students with special needs, was surprised with a pizza party and flowers by her class ( https://youtu.be/ewoF_q1_8dM ). Likovic is passionate about helping her students succeed, and was recently named Teacher of the Year by her school district.

Inspiring students to achieve comes from inspired teachers. So as part of its community support of teachers, Marco's Pizza created a blog to share stories of what inspires teachers. And for their feedback, they will have a chance to win a pizza party for their class, as well as the grand prize of $2,500 in Apple products or a getaway trip for two to the Big Apple. Teachers can enter the Apples for Teachers Sweepstakes at www.SliceoftheCommunity.com.

The National PTA created Teacher Appreciation Week in 1985. It was based upon National Teacher Day, which was initiated by Eleanor Roosevelt in 1953, and proclaimed by the 81 st Congress. The National Education Association moved the day to coincide with Teacher Appreciation Week, and is observed on the first Tuesday in May, which is May 3 this year.

"Schools are a major part of our communities," said Cathy Hull, chief marketing officer at Marco's Pizza. "And the backbone of great schools are great teachers. Marco's Pizza is committed to supporting schools and teachers, not just during this one week, but throughout the year through school fundraising and programs that promote academic excellence."

Marco's was founded by native Italian, Pasquale "Pat" Giammarco in 1978. Today, it's America's fastest-growing pizza company. The company has grown from its roots as a beloved Ohio brand to operate more than 700 stores in 35 states and three countries.
