Monday, August 10 is National S'mores Day. Marco's Pizza is celebrating the day by donating $1 for every S'mores Brownie sold this day at participating stores across the country to local youth camping organizations. S'mores are a campfire favorite, and are credited to the Girl Scouts, with the first mention of the treat appearing in a Girl Scout Handbook in 1927. It's the perfect treat for kids who are trying to enjoy their last weeks of summer vacation, like these kids: http://youtu.be/1sbnPc-E9Os
All summer long, Marco's Pizza has been on a mission to help kids experience the wonders of camping. In June, it kicked off a fundraising campaign for local youth camping organizations such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and youth church groups distributing 300,000 fundraising cards and donating $1 for every card returned for its new S'mores Brownie. The special National S'mores Day fundraiser is in addition to the fundraising card offer. With summer coming to an end, the funds raised will be used for next year's camping programs.
The cost of camping is too high for many families. According to the American Camp Association, more than 11 million children and adults attend camps throughout the country. The average cost ranges from $200 $1,500 per week.
Marco's put a new twist on the campfire treat by combining a brownie. Its S'mores Brownie is topped with toasted marshmallows, graham cracker sprinkle and a drizzle of Ghirardelli chocolate sauce. Marco's has also introduced a Double Chocolate Brownie, made with Ghirardelli chocolate chips and drizzled with Ghirardelli chocolate sauce. Both desserts were introduced earlier this summer.
