La Madeleine French Bakery & Caf introduces a decorate your own Bche de Nol kit for the holiday season. Building on the theme of the season to gather, la Madeleine invites guests to share in the French Christmas tradition of decorating (and eating) the Bche de Nol (Yule log cake) with family and friends in the comfort of their own home.
The Yule log is a centuries-old tradition tied to the winter solstice where families burn a special log as a part of their Yuletide celebrations. The French took the tradition from the fireplace and transformed it into the Bche de Nol ptisserie, a quintessential Christmas centerpiece.
The la Madeleine Bche de Nol starts with classic vanilla sheet cake and is topped with a layer of chocolate mousse before being rolled into the iconic Yule log shape. La Madeleine's pastry chefs then ice it with a semi-sweet chocolate ganache to resemble tree bark and decorate with festive holiday candy charms.
The decorate your own Bche de Nol kit includes the cake, rolled and covered in chocolate ganache, green icing and festive holiday candy charms. At home, you can follow the steps to create the tree bark pattern on the ganache, pipe green vines and leaves and decorate with candy charms.
For those who would prefer to enjoy sweets without the work, bakeries will offer fully decorated Bche de Nol cakes along with a variety of other traditional holiday ptisseries.
"With our decorate your own Bche de Nol kit, our Guests can create new holiday traditions with their children, grandchildren and friends," said Susan Dederen, la Madeleine's vice president of culinary operations. "In my family, the holidays center around the kitchen, and we're always looking for a new excuse to put on our aprons. I sincerely hope our Guests enjoy this activity and can't wait to see and hear about the memories created."
The la Madeleine holiday menu is available through early January. Complete menu information is available at www.laMadeleine.com.
