Kam Cares Foundation, under the direction of Seattle Seahawks Safety Kam Chancellor, has launched an online Food and Fund Drive to support the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore. With Thanksgiving only weeks away, Chancellor and a few of his professional athlete friends from Hampton Roads will donate $10,000 to provide meals to children, seniors, and families in need.

"We're excited for Kam to join the Foodbank team and the fight against hunger right here where he grew up," said MariAnne Smith Vargas, Chief Philanthropy Officer for the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore. "Bringing attention to this critical issue and doing what it takes to feed our neighbors in need is something we cannot do alone. We're proud of our hometown heroes, like Kam, that are taking the initiative to spread the word and do something to impact change in their community."

Last year, the Foodbank served 390,000 individuals, including 128,700 children - totaling 14.2 million nutritious meals distributed throughout the region. With the help of local athletes and community support, Kam Cares Foundation anticipates the funds raised will serve over 31,250 meals to children, seniors, and families facing hunger this holiday season.

"I am passionate about serving my community, but service is more effective as a team sport," said Chancellor. "It feels great to work with other local athletes to do something positive in our area. Although we compete in different sports, and even against one another, we all share a commitment to giving back to our hometown."

Mike Scott of the Atlanta Hawks and Quanitra Hollingsworth of the Washington Mystics are two of several local athletes pledging their support on behalf of the Kam Cares Foundation. The Food and Fund Drive is open for donations until November 25.
