Guinness World Record Winner GingerBread Lane to Give Away All 161 Houses and More, January 12, NYC: World's Largest Gingerbread Village Invites All to Take a House Home

As a grand finale to this year's exhibit at the New York Hall of Science in Queens, GingerBread Village creator Jon Lovitch will give away all houses and village items on January 12; he will also ship houses to children unable to visit due to illness or other personal situations.

GingerBread Lane - a 1.5-ton, 300-square-foot village made entirely of edible gingerbread, royal icing, and candy - has been acknowledged as the largest gingerbread village in the world by the 2014 Guinness World Records. GingerBread Lane took one year to develop and complete, requiring approximately 1,500 hours of labor. Instructions will be given on how to care for the houses. This year, GingerBread Lane celebrated its 20th season with its 29th village. The 1.5-ton village includes an estimated 2350 lbs. of icing, 400 lbs. of candy, and 500 lbs. of gingerbread dough. It comprises 161 gingerbread houses, 65 trees, 4 gingerbread cable cars, 5 gingerbread train cars, an underground candy subway station, a skating rink, candy trees, sugar signage and more. While layout and composition change yearly, GingerBread Lane is made only of edible ingredients and always includes Eggnog Bay, Gum Drop Row, Peppermint Central Park, Candy Cane Place, and Toffee Boulevard. New this year are Ribbon Candy Ridge and "behind-the-scenes" windows, giving a peek into the makings of GingerBread Lane with ovens, models, and ingredients, made entirely from royal icing. Five two-foot-high nutcrackers, also of royal icing, stand guard over the back of the exhibit.
