Frenchy's Chicken, the Creole kitchen, presented the earnings of the "Campus Special" fundraiser to the United Negro College Fund. This promotion lasted roughly a week in July in celebration of Frenchy's 46th anniversary. For every "Campus Special" that was purchased, a portion of the proceeds were donated to UNCF. The check ceremony took place at one of Frenchy's newest locations, 8110 Kirby Dr, Houston TX 77054, just across from the NRG Stadium, home to the Houston Texans. "This year 350 students were awarded scholarships in Texas, 150 of them local Houstonians. In addition, people have a misconception that UNCF only provides scholarships to African American students only, but UNCF gave over 40 scholarships to non-African American kids in the Houston area as well," Juana Collins, Area Director of UNCF Houston.
With the first original Frenchy's Chicken just a block from the University of Houston and a short distance from TSU, Frenchy's has a longstanding tradition of providing the neighboring university students with Creole cuisine. Today the once small proprietorship has flourished into a thriving franchise, but Frenchy's has never forgotten the importance of giving back to the community and enabling the young minds of tomorrow.
"I am very excited that my family has been involved with UNCF for many years." said Percy (King) Creuzot, III, son of the original owner of Frenchy's Chicken. " When my dad was living, he told me to always support UNCF so I got that straight from my dad, and I am sure he's looking down on what I am doing to makes sure I am continuing to support UNCF like he did."
As Frenchy's Chicken enjoys its 46th year, they remain committed to honoring Percy "Frenchy" Creuzot Jr.'s pledge to benefit education within the Houston community though their support of the United Negro College Fund.
