Foodie Alert! Wharf Fest Comes to San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf October 26 & 27 11am-6pm

Wharf Fest, the first free Fisherman's Wharf street festival, kicks off the weekend of October 26 and 27. With the majority of Fleet Week activities on hold and the Blue Angels grounded for 2013, the Fisherman's Wharf Community Benefit District is throwing the ultimate festival to celebrate San Francisco's historic waterfront district and invite Bay Area locals to visit the district before San Francisco's fabulous fall climate fades away. This year's festival will include a chowder competition, live music, food & wine, art, craft beer tasting, a chef's demonstration kitchen, children's activities and rides, and more. Saturday will be topped off with a screening of the award-winning films from last year's San Francisco International Ocean Film Festival at the Bay Theater and a spectacular fireworks show at PIER 39.

Wharf Fest marks milestone occasions for the area such as PIER 39's 35th Anniversary and the 50th Anniversary of Hyde Street Pier's public opening.

Family-friendly entertainment will extend throughout Fisherman's Wharf, on Jefferson and Beach Streets from Ghirardelli Square to PIER 39. Several blocks of Jefferson Street will be closed for pedestrian-only access and special exhibitors including Fisherman's Wharf merchants, local artists, and seafood restaurants.

At Wharf Fest's chowder competition, on Saturday, October 26, the restaurants of California's chowder capital will battle it out for the title of best Fisherman's Wharf chowder. Contestants will range from classic establishments like Bistro Boudin, Alioto's and Fisherman's Grotto #9 to new Wharf restaurants. Tickets will be sold for a nominal tasting fee online and at the event. The second day of culinary entertainment, Sunday October 27, will culminate with a lively demonstration kitchen featuring the neighborhood's top chefs. Foodie-focused events will take place under the iconic Fisherman's Wharf crab wheel at the intersection of Jefferson and Taylor streets.

The event will be a blast for all ages. Tickets can be purchased at the event for the carnival ride zone near Aquatic Park's beach, dubbed "Playland at the Beach." The kids won't want to miss special appearances from the neighborhood's mascot characters. Adults will have their fun too with live music at PIER 39 and craft beer and wine stations and a DJ next to Aquatic Park.

The Fisherman's Wharf Community Benefit District (visitfishermanswharf.com) was founded in November of 2005 by the business and property owners of the San Francisco neighborhood.
