Representatives of Boulder Dog Food Company LLC ( http://boulderdogfoodcompany.com ) announced today they have increased the square footage of their Boulder bakery by more than 80% since the beginning of the year. In addition to an overall renovation and reorganization of the bakery's operations, the company has installed new, more efficient lighting fixtures throughout the building to achieve a significant reduction in annual electricity consumption.

"The bakery has also installed a custom built freezer which allows product to be delivered or picked up by forklifts, a larger sealed "drying" room, and a new HVAC system among other upgrades. Further plans call for improved efficiency from more automation in the packaging operations," said Ed Withers, co-owner of Boulder Dog Food Company LLC. "Thanks to the ingenuity of our workers, we have designed some of our own equipment to facilitate the baking process and improve the efficiency of our operation," he added.

"Unlike most small independent companies which sell dog and cat food or treats, we make all our products in-house. Many of our competitors buy their products from 3rd party manufacturers which means that they have no control over the quality or safety of their products. We have selected our meat, poultry and seafood from the best suppliers so we start out by knowing exactly where our raw product is coming from. Everything is prepared, baked and packaged in our own bakery where we can guarantee the quality and freshness. Our products are then shipped directly from the bakery rather than sitting for months in a warm warehouse where problems can easily develop with a perishable food item," explained Withers.

Salmonella, illegal drug residues, and, in some cases, an abhorrent treatment of animals, are just some of the problems that arise from food and treats sourced or made abroad.
"Given the many recalls from food and treats pet treats made here as well as from foreign countries such as China, it is more important than ever to know who is responsible for each step of production. We believe that having control over every facet of the process, from the source to the final package, is the only way to make this guarantee," said Withers.

Withers stressed that Boulder Dog Food Company, which specializes in treats that are single ingredient - meat or poultry or seafood, is committed to pursuing environmentally friendly practices throughout its business.

"All organic plant and animal material, including meat scraps, are composted," Withers pointed out, before adding, "Orders are shipped in recycled and or reused cardboard boxes whenever possible. We use recycled paper for packing material, and we use a custom waste water filtration system."

The company, which has a five-star review rating on Amazon.com, says its treats are much higher quality than most other dog and cat treats. "We specialize in treats that are 100 percent meat: grass-fed bison and lamb, organic beef, cage free chicken and turkey or 100 percent fish: organic tilapia, squid, shrimp, bonito," Withers said. The animals are raised humanely without steroids, antibiotics or added hormones.

About Boulder Dog Food Company LLC

The business was started in Boulder, Colorado in 2004. Initially the company made a high quality dog food with bison as the primary protein ingredient, but then gradually transitioned into making 100% meat treats. Today the bakery in Boulder produces both canine and feline treats made from a variety of all meat or all fish ingredients. Bison products, made from bison meat as well as organs such as liver, heart and lung, continue to be among the most popular products. Bison is found to be a good meat choice for animals suffering from food allergies or intolerances since it is thought to be less likely to produce an allergic reaction or gastrointestinal distress. Equally important, the bison come from free ranging herds in the western states. The meat and organs from grass-fed animals contain significant amounts of healthier unsaturated fatty acids, vitamin E and iron. Its high protein, low fat profile is a more nutritionally healthy meat choice for both humans as well as our canine and feline companions. And grass-fed ranching is not only good for the animals, it's good for the environment.
