Boulder Canyon Foods, a leading minimally-processed snack food brand, expands its popular kettle cooked potato chip line with the addition of Coconut Oil Kettle Cooked Potato Chips, a kettle-style potato chip cooked exclusively in better-for-you coconut oil. Available nationwide in June, the chips have a suggested retail price of $3.49-$3.99 per 5.25-ounce package.
Coconut Oil Kettle Cooked Potato Chips are made in the traditional Boulder Canyon manner, using only real, clean food ingredients that are simple to read and easy to understand. In fact, the new Coconut Oil chips have just three simple ingredients: potatoes, coconut oil and sea salt.
Like all Boulder Canyon snacks, Coconut Oil Kettle Cooked Potato Chips contain no trans fats, no cholesterol and no MSG. In addition, they are gluten-free, Kosher-certified and Non-GMO Project-verified.
The chips are cooked using Boulder's small-batch kettle method, which uses 100 percent coconut oil to provide a remarkable crunch and a light finish that is crisp and clean. In addition to its unique, delicious taste, coconut oil features monounsaturated fats, which are considered healthier than traditional cooking oils that contain saturated fats. Additionally, Boulder's kettle cooked approach provides 22 percent less fat when compared to traditional continuous-cooking methods.
"We've introduced a number of chips cooked in premium oils in the past year, including olive and avocado oils, so we felt coconut oil was really the next frontier," said Steve Sklar, senior vice president and general manager for Boulder Canyon Authentic Foods. "In this case, the coconut oil imparts a subtle flavor that isn't so much sweet as it is buttery and rich. At the same time, the finish is incredibly light and clean. We touch it with just a hint of sea salt so as not to mask any of the natural flavors, and the result is a potato chip that is different than anything you can find in the snack food aisle today."
Boulder Canyon continues to push the boundaries of traditional snack foods with a belief that real food ingredients taste better than processed foods ever could. All of the company's unique products are minimally processed and feature only simple, real-food ingredients.
