We choose Copper and Oak for our "Bar of the Week." It's a small but mighty bar located on the Lower East Side by the same team that gave NYC the Brandy Library.
The narrow space can be easy to miss when you're strolling down Allen Street but once you spot it, the amber bottles that line the walls beckon you to come inside.
Open Wednesday through Saturday from 5:00 pm to 1:00 pm, Copper and Oak is a totally pleasing bar experience.
They present over 600 of the finest spirits in the world. Rum, scotch, bourbon and more are on display and yours for the asking. Plan to take your drink straight and savor the aroma with each and every sip. You won't find any cocktails at here. They also tout one of the city's best collections of Japanese whiskeys, 70 in all.
There's no special language when you order. Dark, rich, sweet, light or full-bodied all work to describe your choice as you listen to some cool '80s music. Copper and Oak has just 8 stools but you can comfortably stand at the bar spaces. Order your drink in one or two ounce pours like their Prunier X.O. cognac ($24/$12) or Don Julio Blanco tequila ($14/7).
Menu selections like their Croque Monsieur ($10), Guacamole ($8) or their Charcuterie Board ($12) can easily be paired with any drink. Discover Copper and Oak, a real find on the Lower East Side.
Copper and Oak is located at 157 Allen Street (Between Rivington and Stanton), New York, NY. For more information, call them at (212) 460-5546.
