Review: UPSTAIRS AT THE KIMBERLY for a Brunch to Savor

Located atop the Kimberly Hotel in the Midtown East neighborhood is Upstairs at the Kimberly, a sleek and stylish rooftop restaurant that you'll love to visit. With sweeping city views, an expansive bar, and comfortable seating for parties of all sizes, it's a spot where you can relax in the evening or indulge in a pleasing weekend brunch. We like that the venue is a year-round rooftop lounge, heated and enclosed in the cool months with the same spectacular views that guests enjoy in the warm weather.

The Midtown East neighborhood has a great shopping district and it's close to Grand Central Station and nearby theaters. Upstairs at the Kimberly is accessed through the lobby of The Kimberly Hotel, on East 50th Street between Lexington and 3rd Avenues.

We stopped by for an early Saturday brunch. New York City's favorite weekend meal is served from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Have an eye-opening cocktail like a Mimosa, Bloody Mary or Bellini. Signature drinks include a house favorite, their "Midtown" with Makers Mark Bourbon, fresh raspberry and chamomile. There's also a nice selection of wines and beer.

Chef Eric Avilez has created a brunch menu with just the right variety and he uses locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. Starters include their Pastry Basket with pain au chocolate, muffin and fruit Danish or Seasonal Fruit and Berries. We enjoyed two of their brunch entrees wonderfully presented. The Hangover Remedy is perfect after a night on the town. It is made with smashed avocado, bacon, sundried tomatoes and fried egg over ciabatta bread. The Eggs Norwegian has poached eggs, lemon pepper smoked salmon, rosemary focaccia and hollandaise sauce. Both of these are served with salad and crispy, light French Fries. For those that prefer a menu item on the sweet side, we suggest French Toast, served with poached pears and maple syrup. Savory luncheon style items are also available like the Kobe Burger on a brioche bun with red cabbage and scallion or the Chicken Wrap with grilled chicken, arugula and mayo. If you have an appetite, add some sides that include grilled sausage, bacon or bagels.
