Review: KELLARI TAVERNA for Outstanding Brunch and Much More

We've found your new favorite weekend brunch spot. Kellari Taverna in Midtown has an outstanding menu and a bottomless boozy brunch for incredible prix fixe of $34.95 per person. The three-course menu has tasty breakfast options and delicious luncheon choices all with a fine Mediterranean flair. And Kellari also offers other prix fixe meals including lunch, pre-theater, post-theater and Sunday Lobster.

The restaurant is conveniently located near Grand Central Station, 5th Avenue shops, and the theatre district. Restaurateur Stavros Aktipis is the force behind the success of Kellari in New York City and its sister location in Washington D.C.

Kellari Taverna is elegant, yet approachable. The grand, charming interior is stunning with wood-beamed cathedral ceilings and walls that are highlighted in sunset hues. The expansive bar is complemented by an impressive array of wines and spirits. The service is gracious and attentive making brunch especially pleasing.

The brunch experience starts with a basket of buttery croissants and tasty mini muffins along with an eye-opening classic cocktail of your choice like a Bellini, Bloody Mary or Mimosa. Executive Chef Dan Nistorescu has created a menu that has selections to please everyone in your party. Start off with their fresh Greek salad, Kellari Salata or Spanakopita. We selected their light, tender Kalamari grilled with lemon, oregano and extra-virgin olive oil. For a main course, we loved the Horiatiki Omleta, a fluffy Greek style frittata with spinach, tomato and feta served with savory roasted potatoes. There are so many tempting choices like char grilled Salmon with organic red beets, fingerling potatoes and saffron yogurt or the Americana, the grilled lamb steak and eggs up with hand cut fries and mint pesto. The artistic presentation of each dish makes your brunch even more special.

Top off your meal with the final course and coffee or tea. Their specialty desserts include Greek style cookies, baklava or yogurt cake. Relax and refresh. That's what weekend brunch is all about.
