To celebrate spring and Easter, Burke & Wills Australian Bistro on the Upper West Side has added hot cross buns, supplied by Balthazar Bakery, to its brunch menu for the month of March.
Traditionally eaten on Good Friday in Australia, the UK, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa and Canada, hot cross buns are spiced and sweet, made with dried fruit and raisins. At Burke & Wills, they will be served toasted with butter and jam.
The buns join Burke & Wills' already exceptional brunch lineup, which includes Australian specialties like the Swagman's Breakfast: 2 eggs, hanger steak, pork belly, roasted mushrooms, potatoes, and the Kangaroo Pie Floater, a traditional Aussie hangover cure.
Standout brunch beverages include Burke & Wills' bespoke Bloody Mary bar, where you choose your rim, booze, mix and skewer.
Burke & Wills is located at 226 W 79th Street, 646-823-9251, www.burkeandwillsny.com and is open seven days a week for cocktails, bar snacks, dinner, late night dining, weekend brunch and lunch.
