BWW Reviews: Career Transition for Dancers 28th Anniversary Jubilee, BROADWAY AND BEYOND

The Career Transition for Dancers 28th Anniversary Jubilee performance and Gala, Broadway and Beyond was held at City Center on Tuesday, October 8th. The event celebrated theatre and dance and honored Ann Margret with the Rolex Dance Award. Ann Van Ness and Harlequin Floors received the Career Transition for Dancers Awards. The honorees have made impressive and outstanding contributions to the world of dance.

Career Transition for Dancers creates the means for dancers to acquire skills to be better prepared for the challenges of new careers when they are no longer performing. The organization was hailed by many at Broadway and Beyond as being instrumental to success. They provide workshop and career events, counseling, scholarship and grant opportunities,

The star-studded performance included an eclectic variety of numbers including Rosie O"Donnell with her "Theater Kids" performing Heart from Damn Yankees. And, in Cynthia Gregory's opening remarks, she said of Career Transition for Dancers, "We have heart."

The American Repertory Ballet was featured in a beautiful piece, Balcony Pas de Deux from Romeo and Juliet. Kelly Bishop, Hollie Howard and Christiane Noll performed a moving rendition of At the Ballet from a Chorus Line. With the impressive tap dance number by Randy Skinner and Sara Brians to Begin the Beguine and the athletic Hip Hop by Jayson "B-Boy Mouse" Vesquez, the audience was treated to a wide variety of pieces that truly reflected the art of dance.

A highlight of the Broadway and Beyond Stage Show came when Liza Minnelli presented the Rolex Dance Award to Ann-Margret, well known to screen, stage and television audiences. Her gracious acceptance speech was laced with loving memories of her very happy life and stage experiences.
