The New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark was the perfect venue for theatergoers of all ages to enjoy the State Ballet Theater of Russia's exquisite one night only production of Sergei Prokofiev's Cinderella. The ballet was performed in three acts on Friday evening, February 1st.
Produced and choreographed by Vladimir Vasiliev, the company graced the stage with the majesty that is the hallmark of the State Ballet Theater of Russia; it immediately captured the imagination of the NJ PAC audience. Vasiliev is the former Premier Danseur and Artistic Director of the Bolshoi Ballet. Igor Nepomnyashchiy, the artistic director of the company, was deservedly awarded the honorable title "Deserved Artist of Russia," since the company consistently performs at the highest artistic levels. The audience left the theater delighted with the stellar presentation.
Cinderella unfolded with dances by Cinderella, her Stepmother and Stepsisters, the Prince, the Enchantress, and the Dance Master. The Fairies of the Seasons, the mischievous gnomes, and the royal ball guests served to round out the classic tale with their flawless performances. The romantic pas de deux performed Cinderella and the Prince was a perfect climax to the tale that ends happily, and proves that a night at NJ PAC can be truly magical.
