ABC Family's adorable ballet-themed dramatic series Bunheads has been renewed for a second season, it has now been reported.

BUNHEADS stars Broadway royalty and two-time Tony Award winner Sutton Foster, as well as original A CHORUS LINE lead - and fellow Tony-winner- Kelly Bishop. The series was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, herself a former ballerina, specifically for Foster, who expressed to me her deep affection for Sherman-Palladino's previous TV foray, GILMORE GIRLS, in our discussion about the show last year.

The show debuted to more than a 1.5 million viewers and maintained around a million viewers for most of its extended first season run, closing out the season in much the same fashion.

As recently as last week, Bunheads was on the bubble, as I reported here.

Now that the performing arts-themed series has been picked up for a second season, Sherman-Palladino will be able to pursue her previously reported plans.

When asked about Season Two, the creator said Foster's character will have a slightly different view of the world: "She's going to find a different way to measure success."

Foster told me herself that the series was a particular thrill for her to film even in its earliest stages since it so closely reflected her own upbringing as a teenage ballerina.

"It's been a really, really sort of cool to focus on the ballet world and to be able to sort of highlight what life is like in a dance studio. You know, I grew up in a dance studio - that was where I felt like I really fit in and belonged; it was like my family - and, so, it's nice to have everything on this show sort of revolving around this little studio," she said.

So, are you overjoyed about this news that BUNHEADS will be back at the barre soon?

Indeed, Bunheads is one of the most effortlessly entertaining arts-based shows on TV, so this news is welcome to fans of the pretty, picaresque, seaside California-set series.

No official confirmation has been given by the network to the press.
