I’m thinking of getting Mrs Doubtfire tickets this fall in Costa Mesa. I would like feedback if the tour is worth the revisions since the Broadway run. Just to help make up my mind

I saw it in Chicago and thought it was cute! Rob McClure is a great performer, though his voice is kind of shot after playing the role for so long. I’d say go!

This is kind of a sidebar, but since you mention revisions: did they change much for the touring and London productions? Aside from the customary condensing of sets and cast size.

I believe there is a whole new opening number. I saw the tour on one of its first stops, and when I went back and listened to the cast recording the opening was completely different. I preferred the new opening.

Is the show great? No, but I had fun. And seeing Rob McClure perform is always such a joy. But I will agree that his voice already sounded shot when I saw it in December, I can't imagine how he's holding up now.

Also saw it in Chicago and it felt… like a non union show. It’s not. But it all felt very cheap. It just wasn’t good. Rob was fine? But the show as a whole was just not good.

If you have the urge to see this then do yourself a favor and make sure to buy a discount ticket or shop stubhub for a last minute very cheap seat.  It is a mediocre affair at best.  I also saw it in Chicago and even if it wasn't a non union show it still felt extremely cheap.  And I like Rob.  But felt sad for him in this. You could feel him cashing his check.  Know what I mean?

Is the tour set significantly downgraded.  I saw this in its Seattle pre-Broadway run and even then the set was pretty basic.

There’s no automation, set pieces don’t track in and out on their own. The house set looks about the same from pictures, except there’s no stairs.

I saw the show several times during the Broadway run ranging from what ended up being final preview pre-Covid to reopening on Broadway to post hiatus all of which made changes in various forms. The tour has changes that were made to the show from the transfer to the UK/West End.

The opening number changed several times during the Broadway run - it went from "That's Daniel" pre-Covid to "What's Wrong With This Picture" for reopening and then more changes to "What's Wrong With This Picture" post-hiatus. The opening for the tour is back to "That's Daniel".

The other major song change was the changes to "Playing with Fire" which during the Broadway run had been a larger solo for Wanda Seller and now has morphed into a group number where Daniel is called out by seveal members of the family. The change here makes so much more sense and works really well.

The tour verison of the show is the tightest verison of the show I have seen in all the versions I saw and Rob is giving a masterclass level performance in musical comedy. The rest of the cast are very talented and game for the material as well.

Is it a perfect show? No, but it's a lot of fun and has a really big heart.

I will say the "What the Hell" song by the kids was an earworm and I've repeated it many times. So I was happy to discover that at least. Just get a cheap ticket and go enjoy.

The show is super fun and very funny and made me sob at the end. Saw it in Florida recently. If you are a kid who has lived through a divorce, this show has a very strong and powerful message for you.The dancing was a blast. Rob McClure is an absolute genius.
