Yeehah! Birmingham's oldest Musical Theatre Company BMOS is celebrating its 130th anniversary - with a return to the stage at the New Alexandra Theatre. Birmingham Midland and Operatic Society, which launched in 1886, will bring a brand new production of Calamity Jane to the venue from Tuesday 14 to Saturday 18 June 2016.
Following in the footsteps of Doris Day and Howard Keel, patrons are invited to sing-a-long to much loved show tunes such asBlack Hills of Dakota and Secret Love as they follow the story of Calam and her posse of all singin' all dancin' cow folk.
The Birmingham Opera Society was founded in 1886 and the Midland Opera Society in 1916. In 1927, the two companies merged to become BMOS. Since then BMOS has gone from strength to strength performing at theatres across the city, and now making its home at the New Alexandra Theatre. John Spencer, Chairman of BMOS, said: "In their 130th year, BMOS are proud to present, under licence from Josef Weinberger Ltd, the classic musical comedy and family favourite "Calamity Jane". Follow in the footsteps of international stars Doris Day and Howard Keel, relive the massive 50's film that has for many become their favourite Hollywood musical of all time. Don't miss what is sure to become another BMOS classic and catch "the Deadwood Stage" rolling in to town this June!
