AN EVENING WITH Phyllis Hyman, a world premiere musical the creators of the Broadway bound musical Mighty Real: A Fabulous Sylvester Musical, has added an additional three-performance weekend to the previously announced performances due to popular demand. The previously announced performances on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 8pm, Sunday, January 29 at 2pm, and Sunday, January 29 at 7pm are now SOLD OUT, and additional performances will now take place on Saturday, February 4 at 8 pm, and Sunday February 5 at 2 & 7 PM. The New York premiere of KID VICTORY, book and lyrics by Greg Pierce, music by John Kander with story by John Kander and Greg Pierce, and directed by Liesl Tommy, will begin previews on Wednesday, February 1 and open on Wednesday, February 22 at the Vineyard Theatre (108 E. 15 St. in New York City). Directed by four-time Tony Award® winner Jerry Zaks and choreographed by Tony Award winner Warren Carlyle, Hello, Dolly! will begin performances at Broadway's Shubert Theatre (225 West 44th Street) on March 15, 2017, with an official opening night of April 20, 2017. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is up on the marquee, and BroadwayWorld was there to capture the exciting new look for the Lunt-Fontanne! The new musical version, starring two-time Tony Award winner Christian Borle, is set to begin previews on March 28th, 2017. Opening night is April 23rd, 2017.

Previews are underway for the Broadway debut of August Wilson's Jitney, directed by Tony Award winner Ruben Santiago-Hudson (The Piano Lesson, Seven Guitars, Gem of the Ocean). Just yesterday, Gil Faizon (Nick Kroll) and George St. Geegland (John Mulaney) celebrated 100 performances of their hit masterpiece OH, HELLO on BROADWAY.  Performances for OH, HELLO on BROADWAY began Friday September 23 and opened to critical acclaim on October 10. The show will run through January 22 2017.

Lin-Manuel Miranda dropped by Hamilton yesterday with pals Josh Groban and Cate Blanchett to judge the all-important holiday door-decorating contest, and BroadwayWorld was there to capture all the highlights.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, the world premiere studio recording of Freaky Friday, the new musical based on the beloved novel by Mary Rodgers and two hit Disney films, will be released by Walt Disney Records in early 2017. The studio recording can be pre-ordered here.

Fences, starring Tony winners Denzel Washington and Viola Davis, doesn't arrive in movie theatres until December 25, but the cast just gathered last night the celebrate the NYC premiere. BroadwayWorld was there for the special night, and you can check out photos below!

Norm Lewis begins his 2nd Holiday Residency at Feinstein's/54 Below on December 19th, for SIX performances, through Christmas Eve. This year, he's calling it I'll Be Home For Christmas. Like last year, he will be joined by a special guest each night, and it promises to be the hottest holiday bash in the  heart of Manhattan. Norm will be singing holiday favorites, putting his unique spin on material and doing some career favorites that have come to make him one of the most sought-after leading men on Broadway. Come celebrate with Norm and his talented friends. We've got a swingin' band, led by Joseph Joubert and the party, once again, is directed by Richard Jay-Alexander. Just like last year … there will be plenty of surprises!

#EduHam is a series of HAMILTON Wednesday matinees made available to New York City schools with a high concentration of students from low-income families for the ticket price of only $10. This educational partnership, made possible through a $1.46 million grant by The Rockefeller Foundation, is not only providing 20,000 NYC public school students with the opportunity to see HAMILTON on Broadway, but provides educational material by Gilder Lehrman to incorporate material from the musical into the American History curriculum.
