Deadline reports that Damon Herriman has joined Barry Jenkins' (Moonlight) adaptation of Colson Whitehead's novel 'Underground Railroad.' The story centers on young Cora, a slave on a cotton plantation in Georgia. Life is hell for all the slaves, but especially bad for Cora; an outcast even among her fellow Africans, she is coming into womanhood—where even greater pain awaits. When Caesar, a recent arrival from Virginia, tells her about the Underground Railroad, they decide to take a terrifying risk and escape.

Deadline reports that a series of young actors has been cast to play iconic video game characters in the new Mortal Kombat reboot. Ludi Lin (Aquaman, Power Rangers), newcomer Sisi Stringer and Mechad Brooks (Supergirl, True Blood) will play Liu Kang, Mileena and Jackson “Jax” Bridges. respectively. Tadanobu Asano (Thor: Ragnarok, Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan) is in negotiations to play Raiden.

Garage-pop group Pet Fangs have released their full-length album Ultra Deluxetoday. The album includes a ton of singles including their heavily-streamed hit 'Afterglow,' the 'grungy' (Ones to Watch) 'Bitch, Baby.,' their latest track 'Problemz,' as well as ton of previously unreleased new songs from the quartet. Ultra Deluxe premiered this week by way of the legendary publication The Big Takeover, who called the album 'a wildly lively and fun ride through a number of cool music genres.'

The Atlanta Underground Film Festival will be screening the new film, “ADOLESCENCE” on Saturday, August 17 at 4pm at the Synchronicity Theatre. The film, directed byAshley Avis, is about a teenager from an abusive household (Mickey River) who falls in love with a free-spirited runaway (India Eisley) that leads him into the fast-lane lifestyle of drugs and addiction which threatens to destroy him.

British synthpop stalwarts Nature of Wires present their new double album 'Modus', out on August 16 via Manchester's Analogue Trash label. Comprising 18 tracks, this is 80s-influenced synthpop with a dark edge. The album had its genesis in the late 80s and early 90s, when the band were in the middle of a creative hot streak.
