The work had been withdrawn from the program when the Mariinsky Theatre Chorus had been delayed in its arrival from Russia due to the emergency travel disruptions in Europe. The program for this evening's concert will therefore comprise Les Noces, Symphonies of Wind Instruments, and The Firebird (complete). On Friday, April 23, at 2:00 p.m., Les Noces will be performed in place of the originally scheduled Jeu de cartes. The rest of that program remains unchanged, and the subsequent programs of The Russian Stravinsky will be performed as previously announced. Cornelia Street Cafe Presents Sara Serpa, 4/22April 22, 2010Sara Serpa is a vocalist wielding an instrument as favorably unadorned and pure as any in jazz. She's the freshest vocalist on the scene at the moment, not just because she's new to it at age 28. It's certainly not because of the way she delivers a lyric, since there usually aren't any. Being from Portugal is also irrelevant, for like much of the great jazz coming our way in the past few years from Lisbon, there is nothing overtly ethnic about the music; it's sensuous, transporting, sultry and warm.
