Every year New Paradigm Theatre (www.nptheatre.org) hosts a party for their 'tribe' of supporters on Giving Day.  This year we are hosting a virtual party that is full of performances and shout outs from our favorite Broadway performers and youth.  Performers include Grammy and Emmy winner Paul Bogaev, Broadway veterans Jodi Stephens, Janelle Robinson, Kristin Huffman, Jamie Karen, Patrick Heffernan, Randye Kaye, Mark Deklin, Sue Gilad, Larry Rowgowski, Joe Barros, Barbara Distinti and many more!  

The third installment of Encores! Inside the Revival features director Victoria Clark, Encores! Music Director Rob Berman and Consulting Producer for Musical Theater, and previous Encores! Artistic Director Jack Viertel as they revisit, Love Life a year later and discuss their process of imagining Kurt Weill and Alan Jay Lerner’s rarely seen 1948 musical. 

Watch as he chats with Broadway director extraordinaire Alex Timbers, who is currently nominated for a Tony Award for his incredible work on Moulin Rouge! The Musical.

Based on the original book of the 1921 musical revue Shuffle Along, the story focuses on the challenges of mounting the original production of Shuffle Along and its effect on Broadway and race relations.

Days after Broadway theatres went dark and cities shuttered last March, TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL’s Tony-nominated Daniel J. Watts (Ike Turner) sat down to write a tribute to those who gather. A year later—amidst a renewed racial reckoning and a pandemic that continues to evolve our public and private selves—his words ring truer than ever.

Today's episode features: Mark Deklin- probably best known for his role as the scheming Senator Jack Bowman on ABC (and now Netflix)’s “Designated Survivor.”

With music by David Bryan, lyrics by Bryan and Joe DiPietro, and a book by DiPietro, Memphis was directed by Christopher Ashley, choreographed by Sergio Trujillo, and starred Montego Glover, Chad Kimball, Derrick Baskin, and James Monroe Iglehart. It was nominated for eight Tony Awards and won four.

Ragtime originally opened on Broadway in 1998 at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts, where it played for 834 performances. With music by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens and a book by Terrence McNally, Ragtime tells the story of three groups in the United States: African Americans, upper-class suburbanites, and Eastern European immigrants.

Here they are, boys! Here they are, world! This week, Mooch and Taylor jumped on Mama Rose's tour bus and ventured down to Chinatown for an egg roll that would make Mr. Goldstone thrilled! It's GYPSY week here at Second Act Snacks and you don't want to miss this one!

In December, Broadway lost one of its brightest stars in Ann Reinking, who sadly passed away at the age of 71. Her legacy live on though, as dancers from the Broadway and National touring companies of Fosse and Chicago have reunited to tribute her memory.

In this new music video, produced by Joseph Church (The Lion King, Tommy) and with video created and directed by Church and Dan Pardo (Amazing Grace), the power of Harnick’s brilliant words set to Sousa’s memorable music is in full display, with striking imagery and performance clips providing a rich background.  Harnick himself introduces the short film, and the trio of virtuoso vocalists masterfully navigates Sousa’s melodic counterpoint.

Today we celebrate Black History Month by taking a closer look at After Midnight. Directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, it played for 273 performances at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. The revue is based on Cotton Club Parade, which ran in concert at Encores! in 2011 and 2012. The revue takes place 'after midnight' in New York's Harlem.

Today we're celebrating Black History Month by taking a closer look at the 2009 Encores! production of The Wiz, which starred James Monroe Iglehart, Joshua Henry, LaChanze, Ashanti and more. Watch as we take you inside rehearsals with the cast!
