Nicole Rosky

Nicole is the Editor-in-Chief of BroadwayWorld, where she began her journey as an intern in 2010. As BroadwayWorld's Senior Managing Editor, a role she took on in 2012, she covered over a decade's-worth of theatre and live entertainment in New York City and around the world. Throughout her time with BroadwayWorld, Nicole has worked extensively with the photo and video team, producing (and sometimes editing) a great deal of the site's original programming, including Backstage with Richard Ridge, Dance Captain Dance Attack, Next on Stage, Kid Critics, and Teen Critics, just to name a few. Originally from outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she is a proud graduate of Penn State University's College of Communications. Nicole currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, where she gets to enjoy far more great theatre than she ever dreamed. Her first great role was "Billy Flynn" in her fourth grade musical theatre class. Oh, how far she has come!

  • Tony Nominee Reactions - I have had the pleasure of covering every Tony Awards season since 2011 and one of my favorite parts is hearing from the nominees just moments after they find out that they ARE nominees.
  • Theatre Queens - When I'm not at a Broadway show, you'll find me at home, catching up on the latest episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race. I've had a blast chatting with many of the queens who call theatre their first love.
  • Broadway Jukebox - I love a good playlist and I find myself making them OFTEN. I've curated over 100 musical theatre playlists for BroadwayWorld (my personal favorite is "Female Anthems of Broadway"). Give them a listen and follow BroadwayWorld on Spotify to find out what I come up with next!
  • Broadway By Design - I created this series after realizing how little information is shared about the theatrical design process and it has become one of my favorite ongoing features.
  • Next On Stage - Working on this project and having the opportunity to spotlight so many talented young people from around the country has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.

Cameron Mackintosh and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Group announced earlier today that their spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera will launch a North American tour beginning this November in Providence, R.I at the Providence Performing Arts Center. With newly reinvented staging and stunning scenic design, this new version of PHANTOM, the most successful musical of all-time, will play more than 20 multi-week engagements through next year, including Cincinnati, OH and Minneapolis, MN. A complete tour schedule will be announced in the coming weeks. First unveiled in March, 2012 in Plymouth, England, this reinvented PHANTOM has been an enormous box-office and critical hit throughout the U.K. Check out photos and highlights from the newly imagined production below!

Manhattan Theatre Club presents the world premiere production of Richard Greenberg's THE ASSEMBLED PARTIES. Directed by MTC's award-winning Artistic Director Lynne Meadow, the cast features Tony nominee Jessica Hecht, Tony and Emmy Award winner Judith Light, Tony Award nominee Jeremy Shamos, Obie Award winner Mark Blum, Lauren Blumenfeld (We Are Proud to Present...), Alex Dreier (Billy Elliot), Jake Silbermann ('As The World Turns'), and Jonathan Walker (The Divine Sister). The limited engagement of THE ASSEMBLED PARTIES will begin previews Thursday, March 21, 2013 and open Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street). Two-time Tony Nominee Christine Andreas, Tony Nominee Emily Skinner, Drama Desk Nominees Kerry O'Malley and Jeffry Denman, and two-time Nightlife Award Winner Scott Coulter will star in The Broadway Musicals of 1961 at Town Hall on Monday, March 11th at 8 PM. The critically-acclaimed new Broadway by the Year Chorus will join them in performing songs from Carnival, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Subways Are For Sleeping, Sail Away, Milk and Honey, and more! The concert will be directed and choreographed by Jeffry Denman; the Broadway by the Year Chorus is under the direction of Scott Coulter; musical direction will be by Ross Patterson. The show, as always, will be written and hosted by series creator Scott Siegel.

The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel brings the late night, downtown vibe to the Upper East Side with its new "Second Act, A Late Night Series of Fun and Entertainment" at the Cafe Carlyle. The new series begins March 1st in the iconic cabaret room and will host the series of performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturdaynights at 10:45pm, following performances of the Cafe Carlyle's regularly scheduled season lineup. Stacy Sullivan will kick off the Second Act Series, followed by Jo Thompsonand "Midnight at Gatsbys: The F. Scott Fitzgerald Songbook."

The hit musical at the 47th Street Theatre (304 West 47th Street - just west of Eighth Avenue) continues through April 28th and is co-directed by Phillip George. Actors' Equity Association (AEA or Equity), the labor union representing more than 49,000 professional stage actors and stage managers in the US, today received an historic national charter in its centennial year from the AFL-CIO. The direct charter, which was given at the morning session of the AFL-CIO Executive Council meeting, makes AEA the 57th labor organization to receive the distinguished honor of formal association with the national federation of American unions.

New City Stage Company presents the Philadelphia professional premiere of HURLYBURLY by David Rabe this week. The show is staged by Barrymore Award winning director James J. Christy and features Russ Widdall of HBO's 'The Wire.' This award-winning play is the third professional production of New City Stage's 7th season, entitled 'The New American Dysfunctional Family'. This is the first time the show is receiving a professional production in the greater Philadelphia area. Performances begin this Thursday, February 28, and run throught through March 24, 2013 at the Adrienne Theater Main Stage at 2030 Sansom Street in downtown Philadelphia. The famed 1956 musical features book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner with music by Frederick Loewe and will be directed and choreographed by Tony Award nominee Marcia Milgrom Dodge. The concert staging will be accompanied by the 35-piece Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra conducted by Music Director James Moore.

The Actors Fund's annual gala on Monday, April 29, 2013 at the New York Marriott Marquis will honor Academy Award-winning actor Robert De Niro, the pay television company HBO and entrepreneur/film producer and Fund trustee Steve Kalafer. The trio will receive the Medal of Honor, the highest award from the 130-year old non-profit human services organization.

Today in 2004, Fiddler on the Roof opened at the Minskoff Theatre, where it ran for 781 performances. Fiddler on the Roof is a musical with music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and book by Joseph Stein, set in Tsarist Russia in 1905. It is based on Tevye and his Daughters (or Tevye the Milkman and Other Tales) by Sholem Aleichem. The story centers on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and Jewish religious traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives. The original Broadway production of the show, which opened in 1964, had the first musical theatre run in history to surpass 3,000 performances.
