Today in 1982, Macbeth opened at the Circle in the Square Theatre, where it ran for 21 performances. Written by William Shakespeare, Macbeth is about a regicide and its aftermath. It is Shakespeare's shortest tragedy and is believed to have been written sometime between 1603 and 1607. The earliest account of a performance of what was probably Shakespeare's play is April 1611, when Simon Forman recorded seeing such a play at the Globe Theatre.

A 30-second Public Service Announcement (PSA) for the Mount Sinai Ovarian Cancer Risk Assessment program aired for the first time Thursday, May 1, on the iconic Toshiba Vision LED signboards in the heart of Times Square, New York City. The PSA will continue to broadcast every six minutes, 24-hours per day through May 15th. Students at Iona College have put the tunes of Taylor Swift into a musical- It's a Love Story, a light-hearted original musical about finding yourself in high school told through the music of Swift. The show will be performed at Iona College's Doorley Auditorium on May 9th at 8pm and on May 10th at 2pm and 8pm, with a special live feed of the show on May 9th. In the video below, the cast invites Swift to join them for a performance!

The Tony Award-winning Broadway revival of Pippin, directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus and featuring choreography by Tony Award nominee Chet Walker in the style of Bob Fosse and circus creation by Gypsy Snider, is now playing at the Music Box Theatre. Today in 2008, Glory Days opened at the Circle in the Square Theatre, where it ran for one performance. Glory Days is a musical with music and lyrics by Nick Blaemire and a book by James Gardiner about four high school friends reuniting a year after graduation. The musical premiered at the Signature Theatre, a professional regional theatre in Arlington, Virginia, from January 15 through February 17, 2008, where it was directed by Eric D. Schaeffer, the Artistic Director of the theatre, with musical staging by assistant director Matthew Gardiner. The producers cited 'low advance sales' in announcing the show's closing.

Recently partnering with the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center Foundation, Broadway's Kristin Chenoweth recently focused her philanthropy efforts to support fine arts and community relations in Broken Arrow, establishing the Kristin Chenoweth Fund for Arts and Education. Her first venture for the program was to help raise money for Broken Arrow Public Schools students to receive the opportunity of a lifetime. More than 200 fine arts students just travelled to New York City to share their talents with the world at the legendary Carnegie Hall.

Today in 1954, Damn Yankees opened at the 46th Street Theatre (now the Richard Rodgers Theatre), where it ran for 1019 performances. Damn Yankees is a musical comedy with a book by George Abbott and Douglass Wallop and music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. The story is a modern retelling of the Faust legend set during the 1950s in Washington, D.C., during a time when the New York Yankees dominated Major League Baseball.

HOLLER IF YA HEAR ME, the new Broadway musical inspired by the lyrics of Tupac Shakur, is currently in rehearsal, will previews beginning on Monday, June 2 and opening night on Thursday, June 19 at the Palace Theatre (1564 Broadway at 47th Street). HOLLER IF YA HEAR ME is written byTodd Kreidler and directed by Kenny Leon.
