Rehearsals are currently underway for Broadway's new musical Amazing Grace, which will play Broadway's Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41st Street) with performances beginning Thursday, June 25 for a Thursday, July 16 opening night. The cast features Tony Award nominee Josh Young, Erin Mackey, Tony Award winner Chuck Cooper, Tom Hewitt, Chris Hoch, Stanley Bahorek,Harriett D. Foy, Laiona Michelle, Rachael Ferrera and Elizabeth Ward Land. Today in 1975, Chicago opened at the 46th Street Theatre (now the Richard Rogers Theatre), where it ran for 936 performances. Chicago is a musical set in Prohibition-era Chicago, with music is by John Kander with lyrics by Fred Ebb and a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse. The story is a satire on corruption in the administration of criminal justice and the concept of the 'celebrity criminal'. The original cast starred Chita Rivera as Velma Kelly, Gwen Verdon as Roxie Hart, Jerry Orbach as Billy Flynn and Barney Martin as Amos Hart.

It's just days until the 69th Annual Tony Awards, and just last night the nominees gathered at The Diamond Horseshoe at the Paramount Hotel to celebrate the 2015 Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre and 2015 Special Award Recipients, including Tommy Tune, Stephen Schwartz, and John Cameron Mitchell (all of whom will accept their awards on Sunday night), as well as honorees Gene O'Donovan, Adrian Bryan-Brown, and Arnold Abramson.  Check out their speeches below!

The 71st Annual Theatre World Awards -- the first award created in 1945 to recognize a debut theatre performance on or off-Broadway -- just honored the legacy of Betty Comden and On The Town with a special recognition for 'Outstanding Contribution to the Theatre World.' The 71st Annual Theatre World Awards took place Monday night, June 1, 2015 at Broadway's Lyric Theatre (213 W. 42nd St, New York, NY 10036).

Last night HBO hosted the premiere of LARRY KRAMER IN LOVE & ANGER, airing June 29 at 9pm, at the Time Warner Center. In attendance to support both Kramer and the documentary were stars of stage and screen including Mark Ruffalo and Joe Mantello, both of whom starred in THE NORMAL HEART (on HBO and Broadway, respectively) as Ned Weeks, the character that Kramer based on himself. Documentary director Jean Carlomusto, Christine Baranski, Kelly Bishop, Cherry Jones, Stephen Spinella, and President of HBO Documentary Films, Sheila Nevins were also in attendance to screen the film and present Larry with a cake celebrating his upcoming 80th birthday on June 25. Today in 1954, Carousel opened at City Center, where it ran for 79 performances. Carousel is the second stage musical by the team of Richard Rodgers (music) and Oscar Hammerstein II (book and lyrics). The work premiered in 1945 and was adapted from Ferenc Molnar's 1909 play Liliom, transplanting its Budapest setting to the Maine coastline. The story revolves around carousel barker Billy Bigelow, whose romance with millworker Julie Jordan comes at the price of both their jobs. He attempts a robbery to provide for Julie and their unborn child; when it goes wrong, he has a chance to make things right.

The company of Broadway's The Visit gathered in the studio on April 27th to record the musical's original cast album. The Visit is the final musical ever written by legendary Oscar Award, Grammy Award and Tony Award-winning composer John Kander and his writing partner lyricist Fred Ebb, before Mr. Ebb passed away. Produced by the Emmy Award-winning and Grammy nominated producer Michael Croiter (Matilda, Big Fish, Heathers), The Visit album will be released June 26th, 2015. Today in 1971, You're A Good Man Charlie Brown opened at the John Golden Theatre, where it ran for 32 performances. You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown is a 1967 musical comedy with music and lyrics by Clark Gesner, based on the characters created by cartoonist Charles M. Schulz in his comic strip Peanuts. Directed by Joseph Hardy and with choreography by Patricia Birch, the 1971 cast included Grant Cowan as Snoopy and Dean Stolber as Charlie Brown.

Jason Alexander will join the cast of Larry David's hit comedy about a death in the family, Fish In the Dark beginning Tuesday, June 9 at the Cort Theater (138 West 48th Street). Alexander and the rest of the company met the press earlier this week to talk about the cast switch-up and you can check out all the interviews below!
