Happy Birthday, Adam Guettel! Adam Guettel is an American composer-lyricist of musical theater and opera. He is best known for the musical 'The Light in the Piazza,' for which he won two Tony Awards for Best Score and Best Orchestrations, and two Drama Desk Awards for Best Music and Best Orchestrations. His early works include 1996's 'Floyd Collins,' 'Love's Fire,' and 'Saturn Returns.' Guettel's songs have been recorded by such artists as Audra McDonald and Brian d'Arcy James. He also contributed original scores to several documentary films, including 'Arguing the World and Jack: The Last Kennedy Film.' In 1999, he performed a concert evening of his own work at New York's Town Hall.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Adam Jacobs, currently starring as Aladdin in Disney's Aladdin on Broadway, just released his debut solo album entitled 'Right Where I Belong,' a compilation of songs by Tony Award® and eight-time Oscar® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Newsies, Aladdin). Featured on the album are well known tunes such as 'Proud of Your Boy' (Aladdin), 'Go The Distance' (Hercules), 'Santa Fe' (Newsies), and 'Suddenly Seymour' (Little Shop of Horrors, in duet with Jacobs' sister Arielle Jacobs), as well as other melodies from Menken's earlier works. He just celebrated the release of the album with some of his Broadway friends, and BroadwayWorld was there for the special night. Watch as Adam and friends talk all things Menken below!

National Theatre Live will present international broadcasts of the Donmar Warehouse's production of Christopher Hampton's Les Liaisons Dangereuses on January 28, 2016. Hampton's adaptation stars Elaine Cassidy, Tony & Olivier Award winner and Oscar nominee Janet McTeer ('The White Queen') and Golden Globe Award nominee Dominic West (HBO's 'The Affair'); directed by Josie Rourke ('NT Live: Coriolanus').

Tony winner Jessie Mueller is gearing up for her next Broadway role in Waitress, which opens on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47th Street, between Broadway and Eighth Avenue). Waitress played a sold out limited engagement at the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. Blanchard was nominated for a Tony Award in 2012 for her performance in HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING and is best known for her portrayal of the young Judy Garland in 'Life With Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows' (Emmy Award, Golden Globe and AFI nominations). Her Broadway credits include Gypsy (Tony nomination, Theatre World Award). She was most recently seen in the film Moneyball. Blanchard's other film credits include The Good Shepherd, Bella, Cadillac Records and Rabbit Hole, and she recently completed The Music Never Stopped, Certainty, Union Square and Burning Blue. Her television credits include 'A Gifted Man', 'We Were the Mulvaneys,' 'Sybil,' 'Living Proof,' 'Amish Grace,' 'The Good Wife,' 'Law & Order: SVU', 'Guiding Light', and the original Lifetime TV movie, 'Of Two Minds.'

DAMES AT SEA will play its final performance at the Helen Hayes Theater (240 West 44th Street), Sunday January 3, 2016, at 3pm. DAMES AT SEA will have played 32 preview and 85 regular performances, having opened Thursday, October 22, 2015. Even if you have not yet made it to the Marquis Theatre, chances are that you have still seen Josh Segarra in action this year. Television fans might know him as lovable goofball Bill Cepeda from USA's Sirens or as Justin Voight from NBC's Chicago P.D. Or maybe you caught him starring alongside comedy It-Girl Amy Schumer in her Golden Globe-nominated mega-hit, Trainwreck. Now he's busy making this Broadway season spicer, starring as Emilio Estefan in the hit new musical On Your Feet!. This is far from Josh's first go at New York theater (he has previously starred in such shows as LYSISTRATA JONES and DOGFIGHT), but it's certainly his first major role in the Broadway spotlight. He just checked in with BroadwayWorld about what's been going on at the Marquis since opening night, how he is handling the extra leading man pressure, and why his 2015 was truly epic.

Today in 2009, A Little Night Music opened at the Walter Kerr Theatre, where it ran for 425 performances. A Little Night Music is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler. Inspired by the Ingmar Bergman film Smiles of a Summer Night, it involves the romantic lives of several couples. Since its original 1973 Broadway production, the musical has enjoyed professional productions in the West End, by opera companies, in a 2009 Broadway revival, and elsewhere, and it is a popular choice for regional groups. It was adapted for film in 1977, with Harold Prince directing and Elizabeth Taylor, Len Cariou, Lesley-Anne Down and Diana Rigg starring.

Today in 1991, the second Broadway revival of Peter Pan opened at the MInskoff Theatre, where it ran for 48 performances. Peter Pan is a musical adaptation of J. M. Barrie's 1904 play Peter Pan and Barrie's own novelization of it, Peter and Wendy. The music is mostly by Mark 'Moose' Charlap, with additional music by Jule Styne, and most of the lyrics were written by Carolyn Leigh, with additional lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. The original 1954 Broadway production, starring Mary Martin as Peter and Cyril Ritchard as Captain Hook, earned Tony Awards for both stars.

Today in 1989, City of Angels opened at the Virginia Theatre (now the August Wilson Theatre), where it ran for 879 performances. City of Angels is a musical comedy with music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by David Zippel, and book by Larry Gelbart. The musical weaves together two plots, the 'real' world of a writer trying to turn his book into a screenplay, and the 'reel' world of the fictional film. The musical is an homage to the film noir genre of motion pictures that rose to prominence in the 1940s. It was directed by Michael Blakemore with sets designed by Robin Wagner and costumes by Florence Klotz.

Today in 2006, Spring Awakening opened at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, where it ran for 859 performances. Spring Awakening is a rock musical with music by Duncan Sheik and a book and lyrics by Steven Sater. It is based on the controversial German play Spring Awakening (1891) by Frank Wedekind which was banned in Germany for some time due to its frank portrayal of abortion, homosexuality, rape, child abuse and suicide. Set in late-19th century Germany, the musical tells the story of teenagers discovering the inner and outer tumult of sexuality. In the musical, alternative rock is employed as part of the folk-infused rock score.The original Broadway production won 8 Tony Awards, including Tonys for Best Musical, Direction, Book, Score and Featured Actor. The production also garnered 4 Drama Desk Awards whilst its original cast album received a Grammy Award.

ITV is putting on its own live version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's THE SOUND OF MUSIC this Christmas. As BroadwayWorld previously reported, the December 20 live telecast will star Julian Ovenden as 'Captain Von Trapp', Olivier winner Maria Friedman as Mother Abbess, Mel Giedroyc as Frau Schmidt, and Kara Tointon as Maria. Tointon appears in a just-released commercial for the television event and you can check it out below!

Happy Birthday, Mario Cantone! He made his Broadway debut in 1995 as replacement for the role of Buzz in the Tony Award-winning play, Love! Valour! Compassion!. Later that year, he returned to Broadway again in the revival of The Tempest. In 2004, Cantone starred in the Stephen Sondheim musical Assassins as Samuel Byck. His latest Broadway credit was in his second one-man show, Laugh Whore, which he also wrote. Laugh Whore ran from October 24, 2004, to January 2, 2005, at the Cort Theatre and received a Tony Award nomination for Best Special Theatrical Event.
