Nicole Rosky

Nicole is the Editor-in-Chief of BroadwayWorld, where she began her journey as an intern in 2010. As BroadwayWorld's Senior Managing Editor, a role she took on in 2012, she covered over a decade's-worth of theatre and live entertainment in New York City and around the world. Throughout her time with BroadwayWorld, Nicole has worked extensively with the photo and video team, producing (and sometimes editing) a great deal of the site's original programming, including Backstage with Richard Ridge, Dance Captain Dance Attack, Next on Stage, Kid Critics, and Teen Critics, just to name a few. Originally from outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she is a proud graduate of Penn State University's College of Communications. Nicole currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, where she gets to enjoy far more great theatre than she ever dreamed. Her first great role was "Billy Flynn" in her fourth grade musical theatre class. Oh, how far she has come!

  • Tony Nominee Reactions - I have had the pleasure of covering every Tony Awards season since 2011 and one of my favorite parts is hearing from the nominees just moments after they find out that they ARE nominees.
  • Theatre Queens - When I'm not at a Broadway show, you'll find me at home, catching up on the latest episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race. I've had a blast chatting with many of the queens who call theatre their first love.
  • Broadway Jukebox - I love a good playlist and I find myself making them OFTEN. I've curated over 100 musical theatre playlists for BroadwayWorld (my personal favorite is "Female Anthems of Broadway"). Give them a listen and follow BroadwayWorld on Spotify to find out what I come up with next!
  • Broadway By Design - I created this series after realizing how little information is shared about the theatrical design process and it has become one of my favorite ongoing features.
  • Next On Stage - Working on this project and having the opportunity to spotlight so many talented young people from around the country has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.


DCTC 2010-2011 Season To Include Two World Premieres

According to Variety, the Denver Center Theater Company's 2010-2011 season will include two world premieres written by Ken Weitzman and Michele Lowe: The Catch and Map of Heaven. Both plays had readings in February as a part of DCTC's Colorado New Play Summit.

Pasadena Playhouse Considers Filing Bankruptcy to Alleviate Debt

According to the LA Times, The Pasadena Playhouse, which closed its doors on February 7 due to financial troubles, is in the process of making decisions regarding their future legal scenario. Aiming to eventually return to the boards, Pasadena Playhouse is currently $2 million in debt.

Harada, Llana, Johnson, et al. Set for 'Transcending' DVD Release Concert, 3/28

On Sunday, March 28, Ann Harada, Raymond J. Lee, Deborah Lew, Jose Llana, Ann Sanders, and Christine Toy Johnson, will celebrate the DVD release of 'Transcending - The Wat Misaka Story' with a benefiit concert for the film. The event will take place at the Laurie Beechman Theatre at 9:30pm.

Four-time Tony Award winner Liza Minnelli will perform 'Liza Minnelli and Friends' at the legendary Chicago Theatre. Presented by Star Productions, Minnelli will sing sensational American standards in a glamorous and intimate concert. The show will feature some of the greatest songs of all time performed in their purest, most intimate form with Minnelli and her quartet. She will be accompanied by Billy Stritch.

National Dance Institute Honors Harry Belafonte, 4/19

On April 19, 2010 the National Dance Institute will honor Harry Belafonte at their 33rd annual gala, at the NOKIA Theatre Times Square beginning at 6 PM. The evening's festivities will be emceed by Terrence Mann. In addition to performances by NDI dancers, Allegra Kent, George S. Irving, and Isaiah Sheffer will perform Aesop's Fable, The Lion and the Mouse. The evening will also honor director and producer James D. Stern. Proceeds benefit National Dance Institute.

Goldberg et al. Set for 'Diary of Anne Frank' Talk at 92nd Street Y, 4/6

Whoopi Goldberg, Ellie Kendrick, Rebecca Eaton and Francine Prose will be participating in a discussion held after a preview of Masterpiece's The Diary of Anne Frank, on April 6 at the 92nd Street Y. The film features Ellie Kendrick with a screenplay by Deborah Moggach, and can be seen on Aprill 11 on PBS. Tickets for the event are $27 and can be purchased at www.92y.org.

Reprise Theatre Company Opens A FUNNY THING HAPPENED...FORUM, 3/16

Reprise Theatre Company will open A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, 1962's Tony-Award-winning Best Musical, March 16-28 at UCLA's Freud Playhouse. Directed by David Lee, the production's book is by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Beginning March 16, tickets for the upcoming Broadway revival of La Cage Aux Folles will become available at the box office of the Longacre Theatre. Located at 220 West 48th Street, the box-office is open 10 AM-8 PM Monday through Saturday, and on Sundays 12 PM-7 PM beginning April 11. Tickets can also be purchased at telecharge.com/lacage, or by calling (212) 239-6200. Prices range from $36.50 - $132.50 with premium seating available for $251.50.

Possibly Reworked Shakespearean Play Addded to Literary Collection

As reported by the New York Times, Brean Hammond, a professor from the University of Nottingham in England, claims that he has discovered evidence that an 18th century play contains reworked material by Shakespeare. Hammond has received an endorsement from the Arden Shakespeare, an anthology of Shakespeare's pieces.

Laguna Playhouse Prepares to Downsize
March 15, 2010

Occording to the Orange County Register, Laguna Playhouse of Laguna Beach, CA, will be making cutbacks and changes due to declining revenues. In addition to laying off four members of the full-time production staff, downsizing measures include moving out of their leased property in Laguna Hills, which was used for rehearsal space and instruction classrooms. They have no plans however, to leave their mainstage facility at the Moulton Theatre. Laguna Playhouse's 2010-2011 season will be announced in the coming weeks and is expected to feature five production compared to their previous seasons of sevens shows.

Former Tony Awards Producer Mischer to Produce Emmys, Again

As reported by Variety, Don Mischer will be returning to produce the 2010 Emmy Awards for the tenth time. Set for August 29, 2010, the telecast will be featured on NBC. Mischer has also produced the Tony Awards as well as many other prestigious television events.

Obie Award-winning director/writer Annie Dorsen (PASSING STRANGE) and choreographer Anne Juren will collaborate in July 2010 on 'Magical' - a solo dance piece that uses the frame of a magic show to deal with the possibility for illusion within dance. Blending choreography, magic, and quotations from performance artists like Carolee Schneemann and Karen Finley, 'Magical' blurs the boundaries between spectatorship and voyeurism, illusion and transparency, diversion and challenge. 'Magical' premieres at Impulstanz Festival in Vienna.

According to the New York Times, the hit Broadway musical Billy Elliot will be making its way to South Korea by Auguust 2010. The producers of 'Billy Elliot the Musical' said that a Korean-language version of the show, will play in Seoul. Years in the making, the South Korean production includes a cast of local actors including four young Billys.
