Nicole Rosky

Nicole is the Editor-in-Chief of BroadwayWorld, where she began her journey as an intern in 2010. As BroadwayWorld's Senior Managing Editor, a role she took on in 2012, she covered over a decade's-worth of theatre and live entertainment in New York City and around the world. Throughout her time with BroadwayWorld, Nicole has worked extensively with the photo and video team, producing (and sometimes editing) a great deal of the site's original programming, including Backstage with Richard Ridge, Dance Captain Dance Attack, Next on Stage, Kid Critics, and Teen Critics, just to name a few. Originally from outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she is a proud graduate of Penn State University's College of Communications. Nicole currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, where she gets to enjoy far more great theatre than she ever dreamed. Her first great role was "Billy Flynn" in her fourth grade musical theatre class. Oh, how far she has come!

There are so many! Just a few include Ragtime, Merrily We Roll Along, Next to Normal, The Bridges of Madison County, Jesus Christ Superstar, Newsies, and The Secret Garden.

Favorite Stories:

  • Tony Nominee Reactions - I have had the pleasure of covering every Tony Awards season since 2011 and one of my favorite parts is hearing from the nominees just moments after they find out that they ARE nominees.
  • Theatre Queens - When I'm not at a Broadway show, you'll find me at home, catching up on the latest episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race. I've had a blast chatting with many of the queens who call theatre their first love.
  • Broadway Jukebox - I love a good playlist and I find myself making them OFTEN. I've curated over 100 musical theatre playlists for BroadwayWorld (my personal favorite is "Female Anthems of Broadway"). Give them a listen and follow BroadwayWorld on Spotify to find out what I come up with next!
  • Broadway By Design - I created this series after realizing how little information is shared about the theatrical design process and it has become one of my favorite ongoing features.
  • Next On Stage - Working on this project and having the opportunity to spotlight so many talented young people from around the country has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.

September 27, 2010

Empty Bowls is a grassroots movement started by a group of Michigan high school students to fight hunger and the concept has spread internationally. Valentine is characteristically modest about her ambitious endeavor and said, 'I wanted to do something meaningful to celebrate my birthday by giving a gift to someone else. I realized one person could make a difference'. Her original thought was to throw a 100 bowls, invite a few friends over for a party to glaze them for the Houston Food Bank. Valentine mentioned her idea to staff at Katy Visual & Performing Arts Center (KVPAC) where she teaches clay classes, and the project exploded from 100 to 500 bowls and into a large scale Katy area community service project. Valentine said, 'I can't think of a better way to spend my time'.

Musicals Tonight Annouces PANAMA HATTIE Cast
September 27, 2010

Hattie Maloney(Julie Cardia), a nightclub singer in Panama City, tries to fit into the elite world of the American colony to which her fiancé, and single parent, Nick Bullett (Paul Anthony Stewart), belongs. Her prospective marriage to Nick hinges on the approval of his precocious 8-year-old daughter, Gerry (Madeleine Rose Yen), as well as that of his boss. Gerry has been chaperoned on her trip from the States by Vivian Budd (Jackson R. Best) a 'gentleman's gentleman' who gets bent to the breaking point by the wiles of Hattie's best friend Florrie (Lara Seibert). Nick's boss, an Army officer/engineer, Whitney Randolph (Daren Kelly), and the girls in the Canal 'social set' - Leila (Victoria Huston-Elem), Kitty-Belle (Claire Russell) and Mildred (Allison Maldonado) - prove even harder to win over than does Gerry. So what's needed are some major heroics and that is supplied when a plot to blow up the canal is foiled. Helping thwart the 'enemy' are three less-than-robust soldiers - Woozy (Antonio Addeo), Skat (John Bambery) and Windy (William Nash). Also contributing to our revival of this 1940 musical farce are Anne Marie Behr, Matthew Conti, Greg Etling, Jefferson Grubbs, Vanessa Hernandez, Annemarie Rosano and Christopher Woods. Director - Thomas Sabella-Mills. Music Director - David B. Bishop.

Cabaret at the Columbia Features Howard Caldwell, 10/12
September 27, 2010

Opening a window on a storied past, longtime Indianapolis television journalist and lifelong theatergoer, Howard Caldwell, presents the story of the magnificent theaters of Indianapolis. Caldwell shares with us the pleasure these majestic spaces brought to thousands of Hoosiers during their glory days - when an outing to the theater was a special event and film was still a marvel of technology. Caldwell discusses the roles played by the greatest stars of the day and relates the origins of Indy's famous theaters: The Murat, the Circle, and Indiana, the English and the Lyric, to name a few. Caldwell points out which theaters featured burlesque shows and vaudeville routines, explores the traditions of regional and national theater productions, notes musical reviews and symphonic performances. Vividly illustrated with rare photos and anecdotes, The Golden Age of Indianapolis Theaters celebrates the city's rich theater tradition.

MoMA Celebrates Abstract Expressionist New York, 10/3
September 27, 2010

Drawn entirely from the collection of The Museum of Modern Art, Abstract Expressionist New York traces the development of Abstract Expressionism from its auspicious beginnings in the 1940s to its seasoned maturity in the 1960s. The exhibition will be on view at MoMA starting October 3, 2010. Marking the Museum's largest and most comprehensive presentation of Abstract Expressionist art, this wide-ranging survey brings together some 250 works across a variety of mediums, including painting, sculpture, drawings, prints, photographs, and film. Masterpieces by artists such as Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman, Robert Motherwell, Arshile Gorky, Lee Krasner, Willem de Kooning, David Smith, and Joan Mitchell are joined by lesser-seen but revelatory works by artists who developed independent voices within Abstract Expressionism. In addition to providing a fresh look at scores of works of art that have not been seen together in half a century, the exhibition also offers a selection of images and documentary material from The Museum of Modern Art Archives, which illustrates the linked histories of Abstract Expressionism, MoMA, and New York City during this pivotal moment in modern art.
