Harlem Stage Presents HOLDING IT DOWN 2/10February 2, 2010Holding It Down, the latest in the WaterWorks series at Harlem Stage, will play at The Gatehouse on February 10. Vijay Iyer (composer/pianist) and Mike Ladd (poet/performer) roll out a stunning new work with Iraq veteran/poet Maurice Decaul. Produced in collaboration with Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans of color, Holding It Down explores words and sounds that bespeak the dreams -- harrowing, surreal, mundane -- of a new generation of soldiers. Iyer and Ladd are joined by special guests Pamela Z, Guillermo E. Brown, Liberty Ellman, Okkyung Lee and Kassa Overall.

NUNSENSATIONS! takes the sisters on a brand new adventure when a parishioner volunteers to donate $10,000 to the sisters' school if they will perform in a club in Las Vegas. Mother Superior, once again played by Claire Conti, is hesistant to accept; however, after being convinced by the other sisters that 'what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas' she agrees. What follows is the most feather-filled, sequin-studded, fan dancing NUNSENSE show ever!
The Women of A.C.T. Perform THE VAGINA MONOLOGUESJanuary 28, 2010The women of American Conservatory Theater perform Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues as part of the national V-Day celebration. All proceeds from the event, which is spearheaded and produced by members of the A.C.T. Master of Fine Arts Program, will go to La Casa de les Madres women's shelter in San Francisco and the V-Day organization. The cast features A.C.T. core acting company member René Augesen, A.C.T. Artistic Director Carey Perloff, and A.C.T. Conservatory Director Melissa Smith, joined by a selection of A.C.T. staff members, A.C.T. M.F.A. Program students, and Bay Area actresses.
MY QUEER YOUTH, Directed by Pawk, To Have March Premiere at the BeechmanJanuary 28, 2010The Laurie Beechman Theatre is very pleased to announce the world-premiere production of Phil Geoffrey Bond's My Queer Youth, directed by Tony Award-winner, Michele Pawk. The solo performance piece, a humorous look at growing up queer amidst the cornfields of southern Indiana, will play the midtown venue for four performances only.

A 'gay' romp through politics, sexual and otherwise, social news, music, skits, and other important life-changing information. Produced by Adam J. Rosen & Rudy Scala, The Meeting* returns to The Duplex Cabaret Theatre on February 8th at 9:30 pm with host Justin Sayre. Past "agenda items" have included the romantic saga of gay penguins at the Central Park Zoo, a nativity play celebrating the birth of Quentin Crisp, a guide to the so-called "gay panic" defense, and musical numbers with cabaret star Molly Pope. The February show will pay tribute to the life of Warhol Superstar Jackie Curtis.
