Producer Jeffrey Finn announced today that Tony® nominee and Emmy® winner Sean Hayes will play God in a limited 14-week engagement of the hit Broadway comedy An Act of God at Broadway's Booth Theatre (222 West 45th Street) beginning May 28, 2016. David Javerbaum's comedy returns to New York after launching the 2015-2016 Broadway season in a sold-out, critically acclaimed run and a second Godly successful run starring Sean Hayes in Los Angeles.

A spokesman for the NYPD's Office of the Deputy Commissioner for Public Information has confirmed that they evacuated an area in Times Square while a bomb squad investigated a suspicious package.

Hartford police are investigating a break-in at Hartford Stage offices that resulted in anti-gay graffiti. Police responded to the call just after 8 a.m. to investigate a possible burglary. The general manager said the doors were tampered with and there was graffiti on the walls. 

John Legend has signed on to produce a new Off Broadway play about Dick Gregory, the American civil rights activist, social critic, writer, entrepreneur, and comedian.The play is called TURN ME LOOSE, and will even feature an original song by John Legend.

When it debuted, THE EFFECT took London by storm, winning Best New Play from the UK Critics' Circle. Now, award-winning director David Cromer (Our Town, Tribes) helms a new American production of this exhilarating play in the first collaboration between The National Theatre, Jean Doumanian Productions, and Barrow Street Theatre. This production marks the off-Broadway producing debut for The National Theatre when it premiered on Sunday, March 20th 2016. 

The Asian American Arts Alliance is launching the 2016 Van Lier Fellowships in Acting and Directing for theater artists of Asian descent who are 30 and under and based in New York City. There is an open application process. Each fellow will receive a $12,000 cash stipend-an unprecedented amount dedicated to young Asian American artists-as well as a package of professional development opportunities that includes artistic mentorship with an established mid-career theater professional, leadership coaching, and technical assistance resources. The fellowships are supported by a grant from the New York Community Trust.

The Marriott Theatre has completed casting for Andrew Lloyd Webber's smash hit EVITA. The show tells the story of the charismatic and glamorous first lady of Argentina, Eva Peron.

 Gary Sinyor's first play in which he also directs opens tonight (15 March) at the Arts Theatre.  Designs are by Carla Goodman with lighting by Humphrey McDermott, sound by Luke Swaffield and music by Erran Baron Cohen. NOTMOSES is booking to 14 May 2016.

Theatre In Our Schools (TIOS) is a celebration of theatre in our schools and schools in our theatres. Sponsored by the American Alliance for Theatre & Education (AATE) and the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA), the goals of TIOS are to raise public awareness of the impact of theatre education and draw attention to the need for more access to quality programs in and out of school for all students. While TIOS presentations and advocacy may happen anytime in schools, theatres, and other public spaces, AATE and EdTA will recognize and promote March as the official Theatre In Our Schools month.
