Googie Withers Dies at 94July 16, 2011Born Georgette Lizette Withers on March 12, 1917 in Karachi, India, she was known as 'Googie' from an early age. Her family returned to England when she was aged seven and she began acting at the age of 12, appearing at the Victoria Palace in The Windmill Man. A student at the Italia Conti Academy of Arts, she was a dancer in a West End production when she was offered work as a film extra in Michael Powell's The Girl in the Crowd (1935). She arrived on the set to find one of the major players in the production had been dismissed, and she was immediately asked to step into the role.

Occupying all three floors at the Center, the exhibition highlights an overview of the historic pledge of artwork by Mrs. Landau, consisting of 419 pieces by 86 artists who have shaped the course of American Art. The installation is inspired by the Whitney Museum's recent 'Legacy' exhibition organized by Donna De Salvo and David Kiehl. The intimate setting of the Fisher Landau Center for Art allows for an expanded presentation of Mrs Landau's pledge, displaying more than 100 artworks by over 60 artists including:

Louie Anderson Set for 7/18 at Bay Street's Comedy ClubJuly 10, 2011Louie Anderson comes to the Comedy Club at Bay Street Theatre on Monday, July 18. Louie made his national television debut on the 'The Tonight Show' in 1984. He has guest-starred in sitcoms like 'Grace Under Fire' and dramas like 'Touched by an Angel' and 'Chicago Hope,' and he has had featured roles in film comedies like 'Coming to America,' opposite of Eddie Murphy, and the classic 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off.' He is also host of the hilarious 'Comedy Showcase,' the late-night series that follows 'Saturday Night Live.' In 1995 Louie put his creative energies to work on the Saturday morning animated series 'Life with Louie.' The long-running series based on Louie's own childhood earned him two Emmy Awards. His best selling books include Dear Dad - Letters From An Adult Child and Good-bye Jumbo...Hello Cruel World. Louie recently finished writing THE F WORD, HOW TO SURVIVE YOUR FAMILY.
