The Fry Street Quartet will be in residence at The Hartt School Community Division (HCD) July 30 through August 8, working with advanced teenagers in HCD's 3rd annual David Einfeldt Chamber Music Seminar. The week long seminar features a performance by the Fry Street Quartet on August 4, at 7:00 PM in Lincoln Theater. Admission is $20 for adults with discounts available for seniors and students. Devon James has something to prove. At 17, the recent graduate of Harrison High School is admittedly taking on 'quite a bite to chew'. James, the artistic director at the New York Performing Arts Center (NYPAC), in White Plains is putting his actors through their paces as they rehearse for the upcoming production of Bert V. Royal's' DOG SEES GOD: Confessions of a teenage blockhead' (Dog Sees God is a palindrome - same letters forward as backward).

The engagement of DREAMGIRLS at Washington, D.C.'s National Theatre has been canceled as advance ticket sales have failed to meet expectations. The engagement was scheduled to run July 28 through August 8. The tour route is currently booked through January 2, 2011 (itinerary below), and the producers hope to bring DREAMGIRLS to Washington at a later time.

EMERGING ARTISTS THEATRE will present a return engagement of their wildly popular and critically acclaimed production of PENNY PENNIWORTH by Chris Weikel. This spoof of Dickens, directed by Mark Finley, is produced on Off-Broadway contract. Performances of this limited engagement will begin September 8 at TADA Theatre.

Blume to produce the U.S. premiere of Spellbound- A Musical Adventure at the New York International Fringe Festival (August 3 - 29, 2010).

The second annual Shadowbox Sketch Comedy Festival is right around the corner! Next Tuesday and Wednesday 7 troupes will go head-to-head in an American Idol-style competition where the audience decides which sketches go on to the finals and, ultimately, which troupe will reign supreme.

MY DOG TULIP, an animated feature film based on the acclaimed best-selling memoir by author J.R. Ackerley, featuring the voices of Christopher Plummer, the late Lynn Redgrave, and Isabella Rossellini, is the first acquisition of the newly reopened New Yorker Films. A bittersweet retrospective account of the author's 14-year relationship with his adopted Alsatian, Tulip, the film will have its world theatrical premiere on September 1, 2010, at Film Forum in New York City, followed by a national release.

Weeks after René Pape delivered his much praised role debut as Wagner's King of the Gods, he traveled to the White Nights Festival where he reprised the role of Wotan in concert and recorded the opera with Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra for later release on the Mariinsky label. Pape fans don't have to wait long, however, to hear a new Wagner recording from the German bass: his famous Gurnemanz can be heard on a fall release of Parsifal, also from Mariinsky, which represents Gergiev's first Wagner recording. Festival appearances in Europe keep Pape busy during the summer, before he heads over the Atlantic to assume the mighty role of Russian Tsar Boris Godunov in the Met's new fall production.

Asolo Rep has partnered with Community Haven, Easter Seals of Southwest Florida, Bayshore High School and the Oak Park School to expand the acclaimed Kaleidoscope program, which has for more than 15 years offered a specialized summer program of musical theatre workshops for developmentally disabled adults and teens. These partnerships are an important component of new Kaleidoscope program enhancements designed to expand services and broaden participation.

The Vancouver premiere of Disney's THE LION KING opens tonight, Thursday, July 15 at 7:30pm at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre for a limited engagement of four weeks through Sunday, August 8. In Vancouver, THE LION KING plays Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 7:30pm, Sunday evening 6:30pm, Saturday matinees at 2pm, Sunday matinees at 1pm with an additional matinee performance on Wednesday, August 4 at 2pm. There will be no 6:30pm performance on Sunday, August 8.

Production has begun on One Day, the feature film version of the internationally praised novel of the same name by David Nicholls, which this month enters The New York Times bestseller list. Academy Award nominee Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess star in the movie. One Day is a co-production in the unique partnership of Random House Inc.'s Random House Films division and Focus Features. The U.K.'s Film4 is co-financing.

Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's eagerly anticipated Australian production of MARY POPPINS began performances Wednesday evening, July 14 at Her Majesty's Theatre in preparation for a Thursday, July 29 opening night.
