The Houston Symphony Welcomes Conductor Hannu Lintu, 3/15-17March 6, 2013On March 15, 16 and 17, the Houston Symphony welcomes guest conductor Hannu Lintu, baritone Stephen Powell and the Houston Symphony Chorus in a performance of Walton's Belshazzar's Feast. The concerts will begin with Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis, which features the string sections of the Symphony divided into two separate orchestras on stage. Then, the wind and percussion sections will come on stage for a full-orchestra performance of Haydn's Symphony No. 98. After intermission, Lintu will lead the Symphony musicians, Powell and the Houston Symphony Chorus on stage to close the evening with a piece which is amazing in both scope and storytelling, Walton's Belshazzar's Feast.
The City of New York Parks & Recreation Announces Photography ExhibitionMarch 6, 2013The City of New York Parks & Recreation is has announced the photography exhibition New York City of Trees by Benjamin Swett. Twenty-nine color portraits of trees around the five boroughs take the viewer up close to some of the extraordinary species that grow along the streets and in the parks, cemeteries, gardens, and backyards of the city. On view in the Arsenal Gallery from March 6 through April 26 (Arbor Day and Frederick Law Olmsted's birthday), the images have been selected from Swett's forthcoming book New York City of Trees, to be released by the Quantuck Lane Press on March 6.
