The Second Annual International Puerto Rican Heritage Film Festival (IPRHFF) kicks off Friday, November 16th at the Mount Sinai Medical Center (Leo C. Stern Theater). The 2012 IPRHFF will showcase pioneering, historically significant films and documentaries, contemporary shorts and features, and other innovative films. Every film will either focus on Puerto Rico and its people or will have personnel of Puerto Rican descent in key roles (production and/or acting). Panel discussions throughout the day will explore film industry related topics, scrutinize the challenges and potential for young Latino filmmakers, and consider the context of Puerto Ricans in the cinema today. Finally, receptions and after-parties throughout the weekend will give participants an opportunity to celebrate their Heritage and network with other industry professionals.

Broadway Impact, an organization of theater artists and fans mobilized in support of marriage equality, has teamed up with members of the North American Touring Companies of WICKED to help show theatre-goers in Seattle and Baltimore that marriage equality is about simple fairness. With the support of Washington United for Marriage in Seattle, and Marylanders for Marriage Equality in Baltimore, members of the WICKED cast and crew have volunteered to hand out flyers and talk to patrons immediately following performances in both cities in order to raise awareness about the case for full marriage equality.

Over 3,300 students and teachers from schools across Connecticut, as well as New York City and Springfield, Massachusetts, will see Lorraine Hansberry's landmark drama, "A Raisin in the Sun," directed by Tony Award winner Phylicia Rashad at Westport Country Playhouse, during a series of six sold-out student matinee performances from Tuesday, October 23 through Friday, November 2. Students range from grades five through 12. As part of the Playhouse's commitment to make live theater more accessible to young people, one-quarter of the seats in the theater for every student matinee have been made available to schools that need assistance in bringing their students to the Playhouse.
