The Jewish Museum's first Hanukkah app is now available for free at the iTunes Store. Light My Fire: A Hanukkah App allows users to select a contemporary or traditional Hanukkah lamp from the Museum's renowned collection, choose a unique background to place it on, light the lamp and then share it with their family and friends. There is a choice of eighteen lamps from different time periods and countries, and thirteen backgrounds from the traditional to whimsical, including a window sill, Op Art, a photo of a cat, and more. Users can save the lamps they choose to their very own collection. The app also provides options to access blessings in English, Hebrew, and transliterated Hebrew; lighting the menorah instructions; holiday information; and background details on menorahs in general as well as each Hanukkah lamp pictured.
Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot is a kind-of new musical with a book by Eric Idle and an entirely new score for the new production, (well, almost) created by Eric Idle and John Du Prez. The Vassar Drama department will present three performances of Aristophanes' comedic satire about war and sex, Lysistrata, directed by guest artist Ianthe Demos, on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, December 6, 7, and 8, at 8:00pm, in the Martel Theater of the Vogelstein Center for Drama and Film. Demos, a 2000 Vassar graduate, co-founded the critically acclaimed One Year Lease theater company (OYL) in 2001 and their work has been widely praised by the New York Times and New York magazine among other outlets. JUMP FOR JOY PRODUCTIONS will present Adam Bock's comedy The Drunken City, directed by Misti B. Wills (In Search of Euphoria, New World Stages). The Drunken City will play a limited engagement at The WorkShop Theatre's Mainstage (312 West 36th Street, between 8th and 9th Ave.). The League of Professional Theatre Women has announced that its 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award, which honors women exhibiting exemplary service to the theatre, will be presented by Marsha Norman (playwright) to Joan D. Firestone, Executive Director of The Moth. In addition to its annual Lifetime Achievement Award, LPTW will have Linda Chapman (playwright) present the 2012 Lee Reynolds Award to Kia Corthron, an outstanding American dramatist and activist, and the 2012 Josephine Abady Award presented by Angelina Fiordellisi (Cherry Lane Theater) to Stephanie Ybarra, an Artistic Associate at The Public Theatre. All the awards will be presented at the LPTW's Turning Thirty Awards Celebration, in honor of the League's 30th Anniversary year, on December 6, 2012, at Scandinavia House at 58 Park Avenue, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This year's celebration will also be the culmination of a year of celebratory events for the League.

In 'Midwinter Night: Sacred and Profane Rituals,' Yara Arts Group will perform a World Music Theater piece that includes the Koliadnyky, an ensemble of winter song singers from Kryvorivnia (Ukraine); the explosive Lemon Bucket Orkestra, a Ukrainian-klezmer-gypsy-rag-tag-punk super band from Canada; and an 18th century Baroque Nativity folk opera staged by Yara artists. La MaMa E.T.C. will present the piece December 27-30 in its Ellen Stewart Theater, 66 East Fourth Street (in Manhattan's East Village).
Second Thought Theatre announced today that Kelsey Head will be the company's new Co-Artistic Director. Head, who joins current Co-Artistic Director Steven Walters, will begin work with STT immediately. This announcement comes as the company is preparing to announce its 2013 season.

The fifth St. Petersburg Opera "Opera Idol" will be chosen November 30, 2012 at a competition beginning at 7:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 701 Beach Dr., St. Petersburg. The reigning Opera Idol, soprano Vanessa Rodriguez, a recent graduate of University of South Florida, will relinquish her title, but not before singing as part of a quartet (also including Melissa Misener, Chris Romeo, and Rimas Karnavicius, all previous contestants.)
