Due to popular demand, Slightly Altered States Theater Company announces the additional performance of World Premiere of THE CHESS LESSON, an absurdist comedy by Sari Caine, a chess champion and teacher. The added performance will take place on Sunday, January 27 at 9pm at IRT Theater.
Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre, professional Theatre in Residence at the Oakes Center in Summit, is presenting the New Jersey premiere of Julia Cho's Off-Broadway hit, The Language Archive. This comedy of the heart explores the mysterious language of love, which often fails when it is needed most. The Language Archive plays January 25 through February 10, with talkbacks following the January 27 and February 3 matinees.

Company of Fools, part of the Sun Valley Center for the Arts, finishes its 17th season with Distracted by Lisa Loomer running February 13 - March 1 at the Liberty Theatre in Hailey. Time Out NY called Distracted a "My favorite comedy of the year!' The play examines the perplexing and emotional journey of two parents hoping to make the best treatment decision of treatment for their son's Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). Distracted, which premiered in Los Angeles in 2007 and made its Off-Broadway debut in 2010, is a sharp, chaotically entertaining riff on the challenges of parenting in the modern age.
As the Sundance Film Festival whirls through Park City, students are getting in on the action. This week, a select group of filmmakers arrive at Park City High School to screen their films (or clips of their work) and to engage students in discussion on everything from AIDs treatment and educational access to film animation and screenwriting. The 2013 Filmmakers in the Classroom program, a joint effort of Sundance Institute and Park City Performing Arts Foundation's (PCPAF) Student Outreach Program, runs January 22 through 25.

The Circuit Playhouse hosts New Colony Theatre of Chicago's The Warriors for Newtown, a benefit to support the Sandy Hook Elementary Victims Relief Fund. The evening will include a one-night-only reading of The Warriors written by former Playhouse on the Square Company Member Evan Linder, and conceived by actress Mary Hollis Inboden, also a former Memphis actress and a Jonesboro, Arkansas native. The Warriors for Newtown will be held on Monday, February 4, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at The Circuit Playhouse, 51 S. Cooper Street in Midtown.
Keri Putnam, Executive Director, Sundance Institute, and Cathy Schulman, President, Women In Film Los Angeles, announced today the results of a first-of-its-kind research study examining gender disparity in American independent film. The study is part of a collaboration between Sundance Institute and Women In Film Los Angeles to support independent female filmmakers. Results were shared at a gathering of film and industry leaders at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

The Guthrie Theater today announced casting for the Mu Performing Arts production of Yellow Fever. Written by R.A. Shiomi, the play is a groundbreaking noir comedy in the Asian American theatrical canon told through the eyes of Sam Shikaze, a nisei (second generation Japanese) Canadian detective that explores themes of political deception and cultural assimilation. Yellow Fever will be performed in Guthrie's Dowling Studio from March 8-24, 2013 and directed by Rick Shiomi.

LA MAMA KIDS -- a new series of creative workshop programming for youngsters and their families -- will make its debut at La MaMa at the Ellen Stewart Theatre (66 E. 4 St. -- 2nd floor) on Saturday, February 9 at 11 a.m., it has been announced by La MaMa's artistic director Mia Yoo.
Thomas Bradshaw, one of this season's My America playwrights, has never shied from controversy. For CENTERSTAGE's second Play Lab of the season, the theater brings together three of the playwright's most provocative works in a festival of readings. Each piece deals with aspects of the "Southern Legacy" in America. A different play will be read each day, January 25-27. Tickets are only $10, and admit patrons to all three readings in the series.
