The Playwrights Realm presents the New York Premiere of A Delicate Ship by Anna Ziegler, directed by Margot Bordelon. The production runs now through September 12, 2015, officially opening last night, August 27, 2015, at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater (416 W. 42nd Street, NYC).

Just yesterday, Tony Award-winner Billy Porter joined hundreds of hopefuls outside of the Hirschfeld Theatre in their most fabulous red footwear to celebrate the show's 1000th performance. To pay homage to the show's now-iconic red boots, the first 50 people in line at the Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th St) wearing red shoes received a free pair of tickets, plus the three most fabulous pairs of footwear, and winners (as chosen by Porter) got to join the cast backstage after the evening performance. Later that night the cast gathered on stage to celebrate with a toast and custom Kinky Boots cupcakes provided by Baked by Melissa. Beginning last night, August 25, American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Misty Copeland made her Broadway debut as 'Ivy Smith' in the Tony Award nominated revival of On The Town, continuing in the role through the end of the musical's run on September 6. 

Just yesterday, television, stage and music star Lea DeLaria, just unveiled her caricature at The Palm in Midtown. BroadwayWorld was there to celebrate the special day with her and some of her ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK castmates!

Over the weekend, WWII Navy veterans Ray and Ellie Williams led the Times Square Alliance's "Kiss-In"  to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of the war. At the special event, hundreds of people re-enacted the legendary lip-lock  between a U.S. sailor and nurse, captured forever on the cover of LIFE Magazine. The famous victory kiss occured on August 14, 1945 on Military Island, at the intersection of Broadway and 7th Avenue between 43rd and 44th Streets. Afterwards the couple stopped by the Lyric Theatre to continue in the theme of the day by catching a performance of ON THE TOWN. Check out photos of Ray and Ellie with the cast below!

'If Dinah Washington & Nancy Wilson met up with Jessie J & Amy Winehouse for cocktails...' you'd get Carly Live at 54! With eight Broadway shows to her name, Carly Hughes has quickly established herself as a recognizable talent, both onstage and off. Carly most recently starred on Broadway as Velma Kelly in Chicago and as The Leading Player in Pippin. A recipient of the prestigious Princess Grace Awards, her other Broadway credits include Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, The Book of Mormon, Ghost, Ragtime, 25th Annual Putname County Spelling Bee and The Grinch. Carly is also featured in the upcoming movie adaptation of Ahrens & Flaherty's musical, Lucky Stiff.

Just last week, The New York Pops performed an inaugural concert at its new summer home, Forest Hills Stadium, with two-time Tony Award winner Sutton Foster, joined by former Broadway co-stars Colin Donnell and Megan McGinnis. Among other numbers, she performed John Denver's 'Sunshine on my Shoulders,' Cole Porter's 'I Get a Kick Out of You,' and will reprise her touching duet 'Flight' with McGinnis. Donnell will perform a duet with Foster, in addition to 'On the Streets of Dublin,' from Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty's A Man of No Importance. The Broadway community was a-buzz over the weekend with chatter about President Obama attending Saturday's matinee of HAMILTON. While the attendance of POTUS gave the cast enough reason to celebrate, they also marked the end of their first week of performances with the help of Hennessy. The 17th annual Broadway Barks fundraiser - the star-studded dog and cat adoption event to benefit New York City animal shelters and adoption agencies founded by Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore - was held July 11 in Shubert Alley. 39 Steps opened to rave reviews on April 13, 2015 at the Union Square Theatre (100 East 17th Street), featuring original Broadway cast member Arnie Burton reprising his role of Clown #2, Billy Carter as Clown #1, recent Juilliard grad Brittany Vicars as Pamela/Annabella/Margaret, and Broadway vet Robert Petkoff as the dashing hero Richard Hannay. The 25th annual Kleban Prize for the most promising musical theatre lyricist has been awarded to Sam Willmott and the 25th annual Kleban Prize for the most promising musical theatre librettist has been awarded to Sam Carner. The 2015 prizes were presented yesterday, June 22, 2015, in a private ceremony hosted by ASCAP and BMI at ASCAP. BroadwayWorld was there for the presentation and you can check out photos below!

Jujamcyn Theaters and True Colors Theatre Company just presented the 7th Annual August Wilson Monologue Competition at the August Wilson Theatre (245 West 52nd Street). The event, which is free and open to the public, features high school students from Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh, Portland and Seattle performing monologues by the late, legendary American playwright.
