The American Theatre Wing (Heather Hitchens, President and CEO) and The Village Voice (Peter Barbey, President and CEO) announced the winners of the 63rd Annual Obie Awards® last night, May 21 at Terminal 5.

New Dramatists, Tony® Honor recipient and the nation's premier playwright development laboratory, just honored Tony®and Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington at its 69th Annual Spring Luncheon tribute. Washington, currently starring on Broadway in The Iceman Cometh, directed by George C. Wolfe, received New Dramatists' 2018 Distinguished Achievement Award. Tributes to Mr. Washington and performances were presented by three-time Grammy Award-winner Branford Marsalis with bassist Noah Jackson, Tony®Award-winners George C. Wolfe and Stephen McKinley Henderson, Constanza Romero (August Wilson Estate), and Pulitzer Prize finalist and New Dramatists resident playwright Kristoffer Diaz (The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity).

Ghostlight Records has announced it will record the New York City Center production of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's musical Brigadoon, for a new cast recording to be released this fall. Brigadoon has book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. Starring Kelli O'Hara, Patrick Wilson and Stephanie J. Block, the show features The Encores! Orchestra, led by Music Director Rob Berman. The cast headed into the recording studio this week. Check out some shots below of the making of the Brigadoon cast recording!

Awards season continues! Just yesterday Drama Desk nominees gathered at the Hotel Edison's Friedman's (W. 47th Street) to meet for the first time. BroadwayWorld was on hand for the special occasion and we're bringing you portraits of nominees below!

Last night, Kinky Boots welcomed its new stars, Tyler Glenn (lead singer of the multi-platinum rock band, Neon Trees) as "Charlie Price" and Carrie St. Louis as "Lauren.' Also, J. Harrison Ghee returned to the cast as "Lola.'

Broadway stars went out in style last night at Second Stage's annual gala. Among those in attendance were Billy Porter, Alice Ripley, Lindsay Mendez, Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Tom Kitt, Adam Chanler-Berat, Denee Benton, David Cromer, Itamar Moses, Kellen Blair, and Joe Kinosian.

Everything's coming up Tonys! Spring has sprung, awards season has begun, and the latter is all that really matters to Broadway fans everywhere. Earlier this week, Katharine McPhee and Leslie Odom Jr. announced the 2018 Tony nominations, celebrating the best of the 2017-18 theatre season (and what a season it's been!). Leading the pack were Mean Girls and SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical with 12 nominations, followed by Angels in America, Rodgers & Hammerstein's Carousel andThe Band's Visit with 11 and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts One and Two with 10. Irish Repertory Theatre just celebrated opening night of THE SEAFARER, starring two-time Tony Award winner Matthew Broderick (Shining City). THE SEAFARER, written by Conor McPherson (Shining City) and directed by Ciaran O'Reilly (The Emperor Jones), began performances on March 30, 2018 at Irish Rep Theatre (132 West 22nd Street) on the Francis J. Greenburger Mainstage, and will now run through May 24, 2018.

The Public Theater is currently hosting the world premiere of MLIMA'S TALE, written by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage and directed by Obie Award winner Jo Bonney. MLIMA'S TALE continues The Public's Astor Anniversary Season at their landmark downtown home on Lafayette Street, celebrating 50 years of new work and the 50th Anniversary of HAIR. The play will run through Sunday, May 20 in The Public's Martinson Hall. 

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) presents the New York premiere of Miss You Like Hell. With book and lyrics by Quiara Alegria Hudes, music and lyrics by Erin McKeown, and choreography by Danny Mefford, the new musical is directed by Public Theater Resident Director and Founder of Public Works Lear deBessonet. Part of The Public's Astor Anniversary Season at their landmark downtown home on Lafayette Street, celebrating 50 years of new work at 425 Lafayette Street and the 50th Anniversary of HAIR, the musical will now run an additional week through Sunday, May 13.

Theatre Forward and Chairman John Thomopoulous just led a celebration to support American theatre at the annual Chairman's Awards Gala last night, April 9th at The Pierre New York (2 East 61st Street at Fifth Avenue). The Chairman's Awards Gala supports the work of Theatre Forward, currently celebrating its 40th Anniversary season, which is dedicated to advancing American theatres and its communities through its Educating Through Theatre and Advancing Strong Theatre initiatives.

GOLDSTEIN, the new musical about family, with music and lyrics by Michael Roberts and a book by Charlie Schulman, opened just last night at the Actors Temple Theatre (339 West 47 St -between 8th and 9th Avenues), where it is settled in for an open-ended run. The musical will open on Thursday, April 5th. GOLDSTEIN is directed by Brad Rouse, and choreographed by Sarah O'Gleby. 

Rock singer and former American Idol David Cook just made his Broadway debut as Charlie Price in Kinky Boots, playing a limited run through Saturday, May 5, 2018. Cook, who just released his brand new EP Chromance, succeeds Jake Shears. Check out photos from his first curtain call below!

Broadway Backwards (#BroadwayBackwards) took the stage last night, April 2, 2018, at Broadway's Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th Street, NYC), currently home to the Tony Award-winning Best Musical Kinky Boots. The evening was produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and benefits Broadway Cares and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center in New York City.
