According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the newly reestablished Devon Theatre in Philadelphia has been forced to cancel their inaugural season after having lost funding from the state. Their current production of JOSEPH...DREAMCOAT will end its run December 13th. The theater, currently overseen by the Mayfair Community Development Corporation, completed productions of Nunsense, The Odd Couple, and Little Shop of Horrors as season openers this year.

The Atlanta based Synchronicity Theatre Company has been forced to cancel their last two productions of the season due to a lack of funds. The company opened the season with a minimal budget and, after slow ticket sales of their first production, Bunnicula, did not have enough left to produce the last two shows of the season.

Singer/songwriter Michael Feinstein was appointed today as the new director of Jazz at Lincoln Center. Feinstein will arrange three jazz programs to take place in 2010, as well as a family oriented evening that will discuss the connection between jazz and songwriting. All concerts will occur at the Frederick P. Rose Hall in Lincoln Center.

Oxygen's inspiring and popular weight loss/dance competition series, 'Dance Your A** Off,' begins nationwide search for contestants to compete in the upcoming second season. Open calls for men and women interested in taking the stage and the scales in the hit series will begin November 21 in Los Angeles. The November 21 audition marks the first of several open calls in cities across the country including Dallas, Chicago and New York. In attendance at each casting session will be executive producer and judge Lisa Ann Walter, as well as fan favorites from season one.

The New York Philharmonic will present SONDHEIM: The Birthday Concert on March 15 and Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. This celebration of the 80th birthday of the great Broadway and film composer/lyricist will include his most enduring orchestral music and songs - performed, in some cases, by the stars of the original Broadway cast productions - in addition to rarely-heard material. Joining the celebration will be (in alphabetical order) Michael Cerveris, Victoria Clark, Jason Danieley, Nathan Gunn, George Hearn, Patti LuPone, Marin Mazzie, Audra McDonald, Donna Murphy, Mandy Patinkin, Bernadette Peters, and others to be announced, including surprise guests. Paul Gemignani, Mr. Sondheim's longtime collaborator, will conduct the New York Philharmonic; Lonny Price is the director; and Mr. Price and Matt Cowart are the producers.

A host of British stage and screen stars are set for the upcoming wartime film 'The King's Speech,' surrounding George VI's struggles overcoming his stammer. The film is to be directed by Tom Hooper, most recently of the acclaimed The Damned. Shooting began on the film late last week.
