'Doubt' at the Everyman Theatre

This is not the first time I've seen productions I've enjoyed better at the Everyman Theatre than on Broadway. Sure, Doubt on Broadway won the Tony Award for Best Play, Cherry Jones received the Tony for Best Actress in a Play, won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, but I found the play lacking and unenjoyable.

It was 2001 and we were both entering graduate school at the University of Texas at Austin, all the new MFA students were attending this outdoor BBQ and here's this playwright with red cowboy boots on as though she may have been Lori Singer's stand-in during the filming of Footloose.

Thanks to the generosity of one of its board members, the Metropolitan Opera announced today that a number of prime orchestra seats, usually $175 - $220, will be available for $30 for all nine performances of John Adams's Doctor Atomic. Agnes Varis, a managing director of the Met board, and her husband Karl Leichtman, have purchased $500,000 worth of some of the best orchestra seats for Doctor Atomic, so that they can be redistributed at this lower price.
