Local Theatre Companies Break Ground with 12th Avenue Arts, 2/21February 14, 2013New Century Theatre Company, Washington Ensemble Theatre, Strawberry Theatre Workshop, and Capitol Hill Housing are pleased to announce the groundbreaking of 12th Avenue Arts, a visionary new project on Capitol Hill that will combine affordable housing, arts space, nonprofit offices, and local retail shops. The building will contain two flexible theatre spaces; a 150-seat theatre to be shared by NCTC and Strawshop and an 80-seat theatre to house Washington Ensemble Theatre. Both spaces will be available for rental opportunities when not in use by the resident companies.

Yale's 'Golden Hammer' Theatre Technology Award Winner AnnouncedFebruary 7, 2013Technical designer Daniel A. Perez, who will graduate from Yale University School of Drama in May, is the winner of the 2013 Frederick A. Buerki Golden Hammer Scenic Technology Award from USITT, the United States Institute for Theatre Technology. Perez helped engineer the flying pink cotton candy cloud that Katy Perry sailed over the audience in her 2011 California Dreams tour, and designed the stage rigging system for Chaplin the Musical on Broadway this past September, among other work.
