Susanna Phillips Receives Fifth Annual Beverly Sills Artist Award April 21, 2010Soprano Susanna Phillips has been named the recipient of the fifth annual Beverly Sills Artist Award for young singers at the Metropolitan Opera. The $50,000 award, the largest of its kind in the United States, is designated for extraordinarily gifted singers between the ages of 25 and 40 who have already appeared in featured solo roles at the Met.

From one of the top U.K. production companies, Kudos Film and Television and creator Ben Richards, 'Outcasts' is an eight-episode sci-fi series set in 2040. The series takes place after a biological catastrophe kills the human population of Earth, 50,000 survivors of the disaster reside on a life-support plant in a near-by solar system and are faced with starting a new civilazation.

Written by Mamma Mia! composers Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson with Evita and Lion King lyricist Tim Rice, the 1984 cult musical of Cold War competition in love and chess is being given its first major Washington area production. Chess is being performed in the fabulous intimacy of the 276-seat MAX Theatre.
