WICKED celebrates it's 5th Anniversary on Broadway on October 30, the blockbuster musical Wicked hosted several special events and promotions throughout the month of October. Highlights included THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD NOT TAKEN, a one-night-only benefit performance featuring songs and scenes cut from early drafts of the musical, as well as having two of New York's most recognizable landmarks going green in honor of our anniversary: on October 27, the Empire State Building glowed green for the night and for the October 30th performance, Playbill's trademark yellow banner will be specially printed green, the first time in the publication's history that it has altered its masthead.

According to The New York Post's PAGE SIX, Mel Brooks might have changed his 'tune' when it comes to Cloris Leachman reprising her film role of Frau Blucher in his Broadway production of Young Frankenstein. Last year, Mel Brooks, creator and producer of the Broadway musical comedy, told Leachman that, at 81, she was too old for the role of Frau Blucher (the character she originated in his 1974 movie). Despite a stellar audition, Brooks was concerned that Leachman didn't have the 'stamina' for eight shows a week reports the Post.
The Directors Company production of Irena's Vow, the new play by Dan Gordon, starring four-time Tony nominee, and three-time Drama Desk Award-winner Tovah Feldshuh and directed by Michael Parva, has added 20 encore performances to its current Off Broadway schedule, by popular demand. Tickets for the November 8 - 25th performances are now on sale, it was announced today. The show was scheduled to end its engagement on Sunday, November 2nd.
Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) is proud to announce Tony® award winner Michael Cerveris (Jorgen Tesman) & Paul Sparks (Ejlert Lovborg) will join previously announced Tony® award winner Mary-Louise Parker (Hedda Gabler) in a new Broadway production of Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen. The production features a new adaptation by Christopher Shinn and will be directed by Ian Rickson. Hedda Gabler will begin previews on Tuesday, January 6th, 2009 and open officially on Sunday, January 25th, 2009 at the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway (227 West 42nd Street). This will be a limited engagement.
Daily Variety is reporting that Paramount Pictures has fast-tracked 'Footloose,' in an effort to get the film ready to start production next spring. 'Footloose' which will star Zac Efron and is to be directed by Kenny Ortega, is white hot after the $42 million opening weekend for 'High School Musical 3.'

Lincoln Center's acclaimed series American Songbook returns in January for its eleventh season celebrating the diversity of American popular song. For 17 nights of pop, folk, cabaret, R&B, country, rock, show tunes, bluegrass and multimedia, the series will explore the best of the golden age of musical standards through to today's most dynamic contemporary songwriting. The 2009 season - January 14 through March 6 - will bring to the stage some of today's most gifted interpreters of song, including top vocalist Kurt Elling and country's winning Patty Loveless. It will feature the rare opportunity to hear Paulo Szot, star of Broadway's South Pacific, and film and stage star Alan Cumming, in intimate concert settings.
James McAvoy joins Nigel Harman in Richard Greenberg's Three Days of Rain, which opens at the Apollo Theatre on February 10th 2009. Previews begin January 30th. The female lead is yet to be cast.
According to Variety, Napoleon Dynamite Producer Chris Wyatt and Mark Altman are launching a remake of the 1963 schlock classic 'They Saved Hitler's Brain' as a sci-fi musical comedy. The duo have partnered with the original movie's owner, Crown Intl. Pictures, which released the picture theatrically. The original, set in South America, revolved around a secret attempt to preserve Hitler's brain in the hopes of raising a Fourth Reich.

Daily Variety is reporting that the international stage hit Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story On Stage could be making itself a home on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre after current resident Hairspray takes its final bow. While no official plans have been confirmed, inside word is that 'Dancing' looks to be eyeing the space for it's Rialto bow. There is no word on an exact date for a Broadway opening, but insiders predict a Fall 2009 start for the film to stage tuner.
