SIX THE MUSICAL is a runaway success. Starting as a side project for Cambridge University students it has grown into a theater phenomenon not to mention its massive online presence. Perth is the next stop on the Australian tour, and star Phoenix Jackson Mendoza stopped by to share her thoughts and insights into the show as well as her life.

The crux of BARRACKING FOR THE UMPIRE puts AFL in a different light, one that is swiftly becoming worryingly relevant. This heart-warming and humourous look at country life is a gorgeous debut play from the multi-talented Andrea Gibbs, and one that offers plenty for theatre fans and sports fans alike.

For their latest treat to a willing Perth audience, the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of WA dove deep into the archives for the famous pairs last production, THE GRAND DUKE. A wonderful comedy with a plot bordering on farcical, there are enough songs and laughs to endear people to both the show and to Gilbert & Sullivan in general.

I once asked a friend for recommendations of good musicals, and they suggested SEUSSICAL THE MUSICAL. Having finally had the chance to see it thanks to HAMA Productions' I can readily see why my friend answered so quickly, and Seussical immediately becomes one of my favourites on the back of a wonderful retelling with top quality cast and staging.

Vaudevilles traditionally lean far more on entertainment than on any moral or philosophical lessons, and the goal of Drew Anthony Creative’s production of CHICAGO (subtitles ‘A musical vaudeville) is simply that; a cast of entertainers, entertaining. It’s a goal they well and truly kick and that makes this production something to see.

The movie Frozen is well known, a heart-warming theme of love and family with a bit of humour and magic throughout. Disney’s production of FROZEN THE MUSICAL didn’t go light in bringing the much-loved animation to the stage, with a magical show that will delight the young, the young at heart, and anyone else lucky enough to witness it.

Tennessee Williams' classic play THE GLASS MENAGERIE transformed the stage at His Majesty’s Theatre with some modern touches that enhance how this story is told. Black Swan Theatre Company’s creative talents (and talented creatives) come to the fore to deliver a memorable and thought-provoking performance.

What did our critic think of BECOMING ELIZA at His Majesty's Theatre? Anna O'Byrne has led quite the life, with a theatre resume that many could only dream of. Whilst her talent could easily speak for itself, she has taken time in creating BECOMING ELIZA to create a warm and inviting show that is more Anna O'Byrne than it is 'The girl who played Eliza.'

Part ballet showcase, part classic musical, and all spectacular theater production, AN AMERICAN IN PARIS is a phenomenon of theatre that ticks all the boxes. You’ll be amazed from the very beginning until the very end by this stunning show.

Having wowed Perth with their debut production of The Producers last year, Alexandra Theater was happy to go large again- perhaps even larger- and brought out theater icon MY FAIR LADY for their winter production. The hype is justified, the awards fully with merit, and it is no stretch to say that witnessing this musical is an absolute pleasure.

There is always plenty of nostalgia around GREASE, something which Drew Anthony Creative’s latest production was more than happy to tap into. The on stage cast shouldered the responsibility themselves and put on an outstanding show at an interesting and exciting new theatre in Northbridge.

In the film Alien, Ellen Ripley is a smart woman who no one listens to, which ends up costing most of the crew their lives. In EARTHSIDE, Kaitlin Tinker imagines herself as Ripley on her own strange and perilous journey into the unknown of childbirth.

Based on the hit 1980 film and the television series it spawned, FAME: THE MUSICAL has burst into Crown Theatre to tell the story of a group of aspiring performers. This production bills itself as being by Western Australians, for Western Australians, and in doing so shows that WA is indeed home to many talented performers and creatives. How important is imagination? Perhaps those of us further into our adult lives may value it a bit less, and this devaluation with age is explored in The Barking Gecko Theatre’s latest work, written by Dan Giovannoni and directed by Luke Kerridge. I caught up with Dan to discuss the show and what we can expect from it.

With Perth Fringeworld drawing to a close, Arise Productions went for a quick backup from their production of Avenue Q to put on another comedy and off-Broadway smash in ALTAR BOYZ. The result is a hilariously enlightening Christian boy-band concert that may not save your soul, but that is sure to entertain you.

With Fringe in full swing, Arise Productions threw in a treat with a performance of AVENUE Q. The show, which debuted in 2003, has consistently been praised for its honest approach to the themes it presents, and this production gave time to those themes but also kept the laughs going for an entertaining night out.
