The Tony Awards Administration Committee will meet on May 1st for the fifth and final time to discuss eligibility for the 2009 American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards, presented by The Broadway League and The American Theatre Wing. The meeting will determine eligibility for Broadway productions which have opened between the date the group last assembled, April 2, and the cut-off date for eligibility, April 30, 2009.

Stage and Screen star Beatrice (Bea) Arthur passed away Saturday, April 25 at age 86. Arthur died peacefully at her Los Angeles home with her family at her side, family spokesman Dan Watt said. She had cancer, Watt said, declining to give further details.

Vanessa Hudgens has been cast in 'Beastly,' a modern-day take on Beauty and the Beast, according to Entertainment Tonight. Hudgens will, of course, be playing the 'Beauty' in the film. British actor Alex Pettyfer ('Wild Child,' Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker') is reportedly in talks to star as the 'Beast' in the film, which is currently scheduled to begin shooting this summer. The film is directed by Daniel Barnz and produced by Susan Cartsonis in association with CBS Films.
