BWW Review: BRAZEN: Rebel Ladies Who Rocked the World by Pénélope BagieuApril 5, 2018In a time where people are speaking out and not letting anyone stop them or bring them down, it is more important than ever to find the trailblazers of the past and make your own path into the future. History repeats itself. Over the centuries, women and their rights and ideas have been squashed time and again. Yet there are always a few women so confident in themselves and what they want that they push back against society and carve their own path in life. They are heroes, idols, and people that we don't always hear about because history doesn't venerate them and teach their stories to young people. Times are finally changing, and so many books are now being published that celebrate women and teach young girls to be proud of being female.
BWW Review: ARU SHAH AND THE END OF TIME by Roshani ChokshiApril 3, 2018The series starter ARU SHAH AND THE END OF TIME came out last week and I'm so happy to say it didn't disappoint! I was enamored with the world-building and the characters and have already been introduced to so much new mythology! It also feels like a great new series to recommend to kids who couldn't get enough of the Percy Jackson series. There's only so much I can give them in the children's department, and I love that ARU SHAH had all the humor, all the emphasis on friendship, and, of course, all the fun real-world questing that the Percy books have.

BWW Previews: Jenny Han's Best Selling Series TO ALL THE BOYS I'VE LOVED BEFORE to premiere Summer 2018 on Netflix!March 22, 2018Last year, it was announced that Jenny Han's best-selling YA series To All the Boys I've Loved Before was going to be a movie. Filming began last summer, but it was anticipated that the movie would head to the silver screen. Last August, Entertainment Weekly shared exclusive photos from the set that will have fans even more eager for the movie!

BWW Review: EMERGENCY CONTACT by Mary H.K. ChoiMarch 19, 2018It's like Choi peered down into the lives of Sam and Penny, pulled out a few months of their life, and shared them with the world. Sam and Penny are so awkward, and feel so very, very human. A good portion of the book is told through texting because of their unusual relationship and that text-speak feels so realistic. It talks about mundane things such as the love of Pringles and whether or not Harry Potter should be re-read and whether a documentary about the life of a cat would be a good idea or not. The texts are a mix of fantastic grammar and the everyday way we send things without capitalization or periods. Sometimes, there's even shorthand. The shorthand is minimal, though, which makes it so much easier to read and get through. Especially since Penny is a writer and prefers to write with grammar, which Sam picks up on right away, and he starts spelling things out much more with her! I'm not a huge epistolary reader and struggle to get through books with texts, emails, letters, etc. EMERGENCY CONTACT used it so naturally that I didn't have that problem this time around and felt it only enhanced the relationship between the two.

BWW Review: SWEET GIRL by Cristin HarberMarch 14, 2018SWEET GIRL by Cristin Harber first came across my radar because it was being advertised via social media as FREE. It had the feel of Jennifer Lynn Armentrout's best-selling Wait for You series and Cora Carmack's beloved Rusk University series. It was about a girl falling for her brother's best friend, a favorite trope. So to try it out for free? Okay, why not?

BWW Review: CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE by Tomi AdeyemiMarch 6, 2018CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE is one of my favorite books of 2018, and I expect to still feel that way at the end of the year. Out today, this book has been highly-coveted since the very beginning. There was a massive pre-empt deal from Macmillan for this debut, which netted author Tomi Adeyemi a seven-figure deal that included movie rights--and she's only twenty-three years old. The buzz around this novel has set the book world on fire, and it's all well-deserved. I've been waiting to get my hands on this book for a long time, first when I saw the deal announcement and heard how awesome it sounded, and then again when I saw its beautiful cover. Now I've read it and am already eager to read it again, as well as get my hands on the beautiful finished copy. (A true collector, I plan to own the Barnes and Noble Exclusive Edition.)
