Thousands of South Florida school students, teachers, and families will have greater access to an innovative, cross-cultural, live theatrical production thanks to a $100,000 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, as part of its Knight Arts Challenge. This is the first grant awarded to The PlayGround Theatre by Knight Foundation.

Just in time for holiday vacation, 'CATS' the 'now and forever' show as it came to be known, the show that revolutionized musical theatre, is coming to Broward Center for the Performing Arts for 5 performances December 17 to 19, 2010. A season full of entertainment and cultural enrichment for the entire family will be presented by South Florida's award-winning theatre for young audiences. In its 2010-2011 season, Actors' Playhouse Musical Theatre for Young Audiences presents a unique line-up of shows related to classic children's literary works.

West Palm Beach's longest residing professional theatre, Palm Beach Dramaworks, continues its 11th anniversary season with the Southeast premiere of Mark St. Germain's play, 'Freud's Last Session' on Friday, December 17th (8PM) at their intimate downtown theatre (322 Banyan Boulevard). Special priced preview performances are slated for December 15th & 16th (8PM) and the production will play through February 6th.

Bob Lappin and The Palm Beach Pops, known for their solid musicianship, polished performers and first-class arrangements, are setting the stage for their annual tribute to Broadway on November 29, 2010. Accomplished Broadway singing stars David Burnham of Wicked and Christine Andreas who is currently performing in La Cage Aux Folles with Kelsey Grammar will team up together with The Palm Beach Pops for an inspired evening of world-class entertainment. Andy Warhol superstar Ultra Violet will be making a rare Miami Beach appearance, providing an early Christmas present to all who attend. Adding considerable heat to the excitement being generated by the presence of Art Basel Miami Beach, the KIWI Gallery, located at 1680 Michigan Avenue, will bow Thursday, December 2, with the extraordinary body of work and ground-breaking images of fine art by photographer William John Kennedy of internationally famed artists Andy Warhol and Robert Indiana. Kennedy is a Miami Beach resident.

David Sedaris' snarky holiday comedy, The Santaland Diaries, is back onstage at Florida Rep for a special engagement, playing Dec. 9-23 in the New Studio Theatre. Starring Florida Rep regular, Jason Parrish, The Santaland Diaries follows the outrageous exploits of an unemployed writer who desperately takes a job as a Macy's Elf, and exposes the underside of the Christmas season.

Peter Cincotti, the young and exciting singer-songwriter-pianist, made his Royal Room debut in March 2003. Ever since, his career has exploded nonstop, from best-selling albums to crowd-pleasing concerts to making his film debut with Kevin Spacey in Beyond the Sea. Cincotti has been combining the old and new ever since he burst onto the scene at age 19 when his debut album - filled with stellar interpretations of jazz standards - led him to become the youngest musician ever to claim the top spot on Billboard's Jazz chart. With his expressive voice, prodigious piano talent and understated charisma, Cincotti has been hailed as amazing musical performer.

So begins 'Hate Mail,' Bill Corbett's and Kira Obolensky's epistolary alternative to A. R. Gurney's 'Love Letters.' Corbett and Obolensky were 'originally inspired by two things: 1) the idea of doing a parody of 'Love Letters' (which was produced in 2009 by the Boca Raton Theatre Guild), and 2) the intriguing possibility of writing it in actual correspondence between two authors.

Set in 1880's fog-bound London, Gaslight is an edge-of-your-seat psychological thriller that tells the story of the Manninghams of Angel Street. Under the guise of kindliness, the handsome Mr. Manningham is torturing his wife into insanity in hopes of ultimately disposing of her and getting away with murder. It is the quintessential Victorian thriller is filled with intrigue, treachery and good, old-fashioned melodramatic fun.

Since 2008, Conundrum Stages has been presenting various showcases in live performance in an effort to promote and preserve the South Florida talent market. Their mission is to build relations within the arts and entertainment communities as well as enlighten audiences with remarkable events.

Asolo Repertory Theatre today announced adding a new title to its Asolo Rep Extras series, An Intimate Evening with Frank Wildhorn & Friends. The starry concert features composer Frank Wildhorn at the piano along with some of Broadway's finest voices. Further details will be announced soon. The show, to be held on December 21st at 8 p.m. in the Mertz Theatre, replaces the Holiday concert originally scheduled. Details and prices will soon be released later this month.

DISNEY'S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, the award-winning worldwide smash hit Broadway musical, is coming to Miami as part of the BROADWAY IN MIAMI 2010-2011 season, presented by the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, Broadway Across America-Miami and presenting sponsor Bank of America. Produced by NETworks Presentations, this elaborate theatrical production will come to life on the stage of the Sanford and Dolores Ziff Ballet Opera House at the Adrienne Arsht Center from December 28, 2010 to January 2, 2011, with a special New Year's Eve performance on December 30 at 6:30 p.m.

The play, for ages 5 and up, follows the story lines of three of Henkes' much loved books, Chester's Way, Julius, Baby of the World, and Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse. 'Lilly and her friends are charismatic personalities, and kids can easily relate to those characters and the events that occur throughout the play,' says Anne Hering, Orlando Shakes Director of Education. 'Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse focuses on lessons about family, friendship, behavior, responsibility, forgiveness, learning from mistakes, and it celebrates the power of imagination.'

Now celebrating its Fifth Anniversary Season, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County announced the return of Mexico's legendary puppet company, MARIONETAS DE LA ESQUINA, with a new production sure to thrill and delight South Florida - THE CIRCUS. After a sold-out engagement last season, the troupe will present their special brand of dynamic live puppetry and riveting storytelling on February 26, 2011 at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. and on February 27, 2010 at 2 p.m. in the Carnival Studio Theater in the Ziff Ballet Opera House. Both 2 p.m. performances will be presented in Spanish, and the Saturday 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. performances will be presented in English.

The Colony Hotel - which The Palm Beach Post has hailed as 'probably the best place for cabaret on the planet' - opens its 10th annual cabaret season in its Royal Room Supper Club on Friday, November 19 with Broadway and concert hall mega-star Avery Sommers.
