This first major museum survey of the work of illustrator, author and designer Maira Kalman, known for her whimsical yet probing imagery, features a selection spanning thirty years of 100 original paintings, drawings, and sketches shown along with the many ways Kalman's work has entered contemporary culture - in books and magazines, and on commercial products, from clothing to watches. Less widely seen works in photography, embroidery, textiles, and performance are also included.

On March 7, 2011 at 8p.m. The League of Professional Theatre Women (LPTW) is pleased to present their annual New Play Festival of works written and directed by women, produced by DeVida Jenkins and Rachel Reiner. Featuring star-studded casts, a diverse group of both celebrated and emerging playwrights, a team of professional directors, and an accomplished design team, this year's New Play Festival will perform for one-night-only at New World Stages (340 West 50th St., NYC). The festival is presented in honor of Support Women Artists Now Day/SWAN Day (www.SwanDay.org), an annual celebration of the diversity, beauty and power of women's creativity. Proceeds from the festival will benefit the League of Professional Theatre Women, in its mission of promoting visibility and increasing opportunities for women in the professional theatre.

Earlier this season at the Metropolitan Opera, Joseph Calleja's performance as Rodolfo in Puccini's La bohème prompted the Associated Press to admire his 'voice unlike anyone else on the operatic scene today.' As the review continued: 'A rapid vibrato gives his sound an alluring sweetness, and in recent years he has refined his technique so that the quality is consistent throughout his range, up to high C.' Now, following performances earlier this season as Rodolfo and as the Duke of Mantua in Verdi's Rigoletto, the Maltese tenor returns to New York to take on his third Italian role of the Met season. From February 24 through March 19, he sings Edgardo opposite Natalie Dessay in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor. The March 19 performance will be transmitted live to movie theaters around the world, as part of the 'Met: Live in HD' series. In addition, Joseph Calleja's exclusive record label, the newly re-launched Decca Classics, has announced plans to release the tenor's next solo album, titled The Maltese Tenor, later this year.
