Queensland Theatre Company wants you to start Taking Aim – impersonating politicians, lampooning decision-makers and throwing comic punches at pop culture – with satire writing masterclasses lead by Australia’s favourite satirists Max Gillies and Guy Rundle.

Says Artistic Associate Jon Halpin, “It’s brilliant to have satirical icons Max Gillies and Guy Rundle on board for this project – we’re keen to continue Australia’s strong history of satire and take aim at some of our own pineapple politics.”

Playwrights, sketch writers, cabaret performers/writers, song writers and comedians are all encouraged to apply for the masterclasses which will culminate in a public performance of new satire in August 2009.

Max Gillies is one of Australia’s favourite political satirists and through his television shows and theatrical performances has taken aim at Australia’s most notable politicians, businessmen, writers and personalities as well as international leaders and persons of pop cultural interest. Guy Rundle is currently Crikey's correspondent-at-large, and a regular contributor to the Sunday Age. A writer and producer for numerous television series including Comedy Inc, and Full Frontal, he has written three hit stage shows for Max Gillies, with a fourth, Godzone, premiering in December.

Applications close Friday 26 June 2009 so email your expression of interest to Erica Fryberg, Artistic
Development Coordinator, on efryberg@qldtheatreco.com.au. Please send your contact details
(including a telephone number) and a brief description about yourself and why you would like to be
part of this project.

Taking Aim Masterclasses cost $550 or $330 for concession and run for 5 weeks commencing 22 July 2009.
