Adelaide Festival Centre and National Pharmacies proudly announce Something on Saturday's 2009 program, now in its 32nd year and running from 16 May to 5 September.

The program continues to delight and entertain more than 15,000 people every year, with many South Australian children aged 3 to 10 enjoying their first theatrical experience through the program.

A week out from the opening weekend, 80% of all tickets have already been sold, largely from subscriptions. To cater for extra demand, several shows in this year’s program have three performances per day (up from two in previous years). The weekly free Kids Corner workshops, funded by the Adelaide Festival Centre Foundation, have extended duration times so that children can still attend them, no matter what performance time they choose. Please note that children must be supervised at all times during the workshops.

With several performances already sold out, and others selling fast, patrons are encouraged to book quickly to avoid disappointment.

The 2009 program includes storytelling, magic, ballet, acrobatics, puppetry and even a rap musical! Some old favourites return to perform again, as well as an ensemble from Young Adelaide Voices who join Something on Saturday for the first time in 2009.

The season will be opened on 16 May when local children's entertainers The Funkees perform an "all ages dance party" with a number of original songs and pop covers in the Banquet Room at 11am and 1pm.

Further highlights from this year's program include:

The South Australian Children's Ballet with a production of The Red Shoes, specially adapted for children.

Unique music performer Mr Percival, who uses a music loop pedal to produce amazing harmonies and songs where The Audience becomes part of the performance! This show is also part of the 2009 Adelaide Cabaret Festival.

Local favourites, the Australian Classical Youth Ballet with their rendition of classic tale Peter Pan, with original music score and narrated by Brenton Whittle and Bookworm.

Crazy musical pirates The Pillage People, who will have you hoisting the Jolly Roger and singing along with the Captain.

Sudanese folk tale The Magic Waterhole, performed by brilliant and exuberant performers from Adelaide's African communities.

Popular music, folk songs, nursery rhymes and jazz from around the world, sung by Young Adelaide Voices First Concert Choir.

National Pharmacies is once again on board as the principal sponsor of Something on Saturday, having done so since 2000.

Neil Retallick, National Pharmacies General Manager Merchandising, said, "National Pharmacies is proud to continue our association with this iconic South Australian program, enabling so many children to experience the unique opportunity and delight of live performance, at a price that all families can afford."

Tickets are just $8.00 per person when purchasing tickets to four or more Something on Saturday performances (plus a $6.60 handling fee per booking, not per ticket), and single tickets are $10.00 per person (inclusive of handling fee).
